Man, I think I'm going to start carrying my camera on commutes now.

Da Tinker 08-11-06 07:24 PM

Camera phone with email to multiple address programed in. That way, even if they destroy the phone the images are safe, gone into the ether, beyond their recall.

Chills the hotheads way down, once they understand there is no way they can recover the pictures.

OH306 08-11-06 07:46 PM

I used to have trouble believing 5% of the crap you write. Now I have trouble believing 1%. Do you report bumper stickers to the police too? Lets see if I got this right .. you think it's wrong for motorists to infringe on the rights of cyclists but you want smokers to die, because YOU don't like it. From the posts I've read on this forum you have double the confrontations with motorists than the other members combined. Why don't you mount your camera on your seatpost and take a picture of your brain.

ignominious 08-11-06 07:58 PM

Oh the myriad joys of bulk rate misogyny combined with arrogance and stupidity. You really should reconsider the wisdom of maintaining that blog lest you fall foul of your nations litigous legal system.

tomcryar 08-11-06 08:59 PM

This is what keeps this forum fresh....always new people to provide their opinion...Just please, keep in mind, that it is only your opinion. Everybody else has one, too, and you should respect that. Don't lower yourself into name-calling and other garbage--if you disagree, say so and say why.

nelson249 08-11-06 09:23 PM

I am of two minds about the posting of this information. On one hand, since the police do not seem to do a very good job in holding people to account for their dangerous behaviour, posting their plate numbers might be a way to put them on notice that people are watching what they do. On the other, you may be exposing yourself to a law suit. Make sure you are covered three ways from Sunday by discussing this with a qualified lawyer.

Further, I have considerable reservations about posting the licence plate of a person having a bumper sticker you dislike.

Also, be very careful in confrontations such as with that cretin from Texas. Some people can become extremely violent when held to account for their stupidity.

spinbackle 08-11-06 09:35 PM

Cool! The cretin cager from Texas got more ink than those from Missouri and Iowa! Rock on!

fordfasterr 08-11-06 09:37 PM

I'm glad he did it.

I would cover up the plate #'s... Only report those to the police....

I will be mounting my camera to my bike real soon... I plan to post up my own list of unruly cagers....... =)

Travelinguyrt 08-11-06 09:50 PM

Yeh the attitude of confrontation without self responsibilty

Take America to a higher police state of mind, inform on thy neighbor, NAZIS 06 style

I ediited out the insult at the end, but I completely agree with the rest. If I found half the trouble while riding my bike that N_C does when riding his, I would quit riding!

Falkon 08-11-06 11:17 PM

I dunno what these other asshats are talking about, but I have respect for what you're doing. You handled the Texas man situation wihtout resorting to violence. You really did put him in his place

respekt

maddyfish 08-11-06 11:48 PM

I don't have a problem with it, it's not like license plates are private or anything, I mean they're stuck to the back of the car, and even lighted. People can calm down, and not act like idiots, if they don't want their picture taken, or the plate posted.

maddyfish 08-11-06 11:49 PM

I also agree with your opinion on smoking.

You are, of course, correct. It is your blog and you are free to post whatever you choose.

However, you chose to create an entire thread on this forum to promote your blog. Therefore it follows that other forum users have the right to discuss your blog here, in this thread, on this forum.

You chose to create the thread so you need to be open to the discussion it creates. As you can see, some members agree with you, some don't. No one has the right to show disrespect to other members and even those who disagree should remain civil, but people should be able to speak freely about matters that are posted.

You need to stop letting other people push your buttons so easily. You feel that you're doing the right thing. So do other members. You can't control the thoughts of those who don't.

I would have called 911 and reported the cager as a reckless driver. There was plenty of evidence other than the bicyclist's 'brushing.' And the cyclist was threatened. He had plenty of witnesses too.

sgtsmile 08-12-06 06:04 AM

I have no comment either way about the use of a camera to record license plates of cars that do silly things while we are riding, but I do have a question. N_C, in all seriousness, are you enjoying your bike riding? From what I understand about your riding situation, through your posts, your riding seems rife with stress and confrontation. I think all of us have days where there seem to be an above average ammount of traffic conflicts, but you seem to have them daily. I am not trying to pick a fight here, but is there something you are doing that promotes this? Are you hyper sensative? Does following a car and taking a picture of it help your stress or does it make it worse by provoking a continued confrontation? (ok, my feelings on the camera are slipping out now, but I think the question I am asking is a valid one) I forget if you posted this before, but have you been hit and badly hurt? Is this where this, pardon the word, paranoia comes from?

If you are truly not having much fun, and traffic is getting on your nerves, is there a way to get where you are going with out being on the road? I know and agree that we have the right to be on the road, but I wonder if taking a break from it is not a bad idea if riding is not so much fun.

Disclaimer: I am not defending the reckless driver, just being pragmatic.
What evidence? Pictures of a car parked at Wal-mart? Threatened? "He approached me in a threatening manner" - yeah, that will stand up in court. What witnesses? People in a parking lot watching two guys argue about an incident that none of them saw? Pray tell what would you expect the police to do in response to your emergency? (911 is for emergencies, no?).

BINGO!
We have a winner.

CommuterRun 08-12-06 09:46 AM

Other than leaving yourself wide open for a slander or libel suit........so you don't like the bumper sticker that's real purpose is to criticize the Establishment? An Establishment that deserves to be critcized.

No wonder my medical insurance premium & co-pays are high & increasing. This <edit> is promoting bad health. Hopefully before long the only place people will be able to smoke is in their vehicles & homes. Not in any public place, in or outside. This way as they smoke in the confined areas of their cars & homes they will inhale the poisons faster & die quicker so the world will be left with the healthy people to carry on.
<edit> mine
You might insert something about fat people in this. It's not just the smokers driving up your medical expenses. And cars, you could also mention how much more noxious partical pollutants motor vehicles emit than cigarettes.

Tact and civility are qualities that you have consistently failed to demonstrate with others such as non-helmet wearers and women. What makes you think that you've earned this kind of respect?

mwrobe1 08-12-06 12:20 PM

Dude...you got some serious control issues. The only person's behavior you can control is yours. Don't worry so much about what other people do...it'll make you a happier person. I mean cmon...there are a-holes and dumba$$e$ everywhere, we'll never have utopia or perfect justice in this world. Live your life for God's sake. Posting license plate numbers on the internet like this will eventually get you hurt, financially damaged or both, and I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone.
