No more knee-jerk reaction

From here on out, my middle finger will not go up every time I hear a car horn. I seriously found myself looking at police collapsing batons, then I realized that pummeling someone or even threatening wouldn't help my cause one little bit. I'll still be carrying mace, but if things continue as they have been, I'll never use it.

You have my word, BF. No more knee-jerk reactions. No more giving the finger or power weaving [I only did this a couple of times]

Maybe they're just blowing their horn so that you'll know they are behind you. My mother in law does this, I told her it probably wasn't appreciated.

maddyfish... your mother in law? I know you can't go in to much detail, but me thinks she does it to just you. No need to explain it on your part. We understand. Why mess up your back sleeping on the couch for a week. Telling her that "it probably wasn't appreciated" was a very tactful and tactical way of handling it.

No "flipping the bird" here very often.
After I perfected my "stand and cruise", I just "raise up" everytime I know I've been given problems.

I reserve the bird for special clientele the ones that go way above the speed limit of 35 and don't move over they actually get closer or the ones that are coming west bound when your heading east bound and they will actually go toward uncoming traffic

Guy in his trans am pulls up to a stop real fast and almost pulls out in front of me. Then I hear him take off from his stop and gun the engine as if gas doesn't cost him enough already. So, about this time I start weaving in my lane and acting like I just won the Tour de France.

Ok, so your version of "power weave" has nothing to do with the Bekologist-coined version. Just checking.

A few years ago I decided to reserve the flip-off for people who flagerantly and deliberately break one or more traffic laws while endangering me at the same time.

I still use it more than I would care to admit.

The most common application of the gesture this month has been to people driving through red lights while I am oncoming on the green. Not *running* red lights after they just tuned red, actually driving through them in the middle of the opposite green cycle.

sitting on my bike talking to a friend on the phone, next to a parked car last night on jay street in downtown bklyn. i hear a quick tap of a horn somewhere behind me. i dont turn around b/c i dont think it's for me, as i'm not riding or blocking street traffic [or so i think]. then a longer protracted HOOOOOOOOOOONK and i turn around. guy leans out his window and yells about how he's been trying to get me to move so he can park in the spot that's just in front of where i'm sitting. i said 'sorry, i dont speak car horn, next time if you just lean out yr window like yr doing now & tell me yr trying to park without being a d*ck, i'll probably just give you a quick wave and move out of yr way'. then he said something else & i told him he should stop effing crying about it and just park his car. i turned my back and pretty much waited for him to run me down, which luckily he didnt.
there's probably a lesson in there somewhere, tho i'll be damned if i can figure out what it is.

I just use the old Vulcan salute. Carefully done it looks like an old Italian gesture involving the first and fourth fingers. Live long and prosper BF.
