I heard about this on the radio this morning, now here it is from Yahoo news. A professor in England conducted a study, from which he found that cars pass helemeted cyclists more closely than unhelmeted ones, but also give female cyclist more room thatn male cyclists.

I doubt this will change any minds in the Great Helmet Debate, but it is an interesting new bit of info for all sides to chew on.

I saw this too and found it interesting. I'm an advocate for wearing helmets, but there could be some creedence to this. It would be interesting to know if the additional protection, if any, that a helmet gives at speed is ofset by a potential greater likelihood of being struck in the first place.

I can see how hetmets give protection at slow speeds, but my crashes have all been at speeds over 20mph and didn't involve my head at all. And a crash involving a car may be a lost cause anyway. All that being said, I won't leave my house without my helmet on.

This study is not about helmets but about drivers reaction to helmets. It is interesting.
