Well, not for nothing, but the four deaths which happened in rapid sucession last spring/summer (Jerome Allen, Brandie Bailey, Liz Padilla and Andrew Morgan) all took place on "reccomended routes" that had not even the painted lines you deride. And in the case of Padilla she died on a continuation of a route which, at the southern end, has paint but on the northern end does not. Pretty much the same neighborhood, same kinds of shops and homes and people and bikers and motorists, but in the ten years, the only cyclist death was on the unpainted part.

Personally, I ride here, I see the difference in motorist behavior when the paint's there and when it's not, and I'll take the paint, thanks very much.
