I know what you mean... now imagine the same road with nice wide shoulders and tell me how much faster the motorists would be going....

I used to love to ride Dehesa Road out off of 54/94 up to Alpine... Now it is a turnpike.

They're already going 60+. Adding shoulders would not change the speed much. For example, i don't think the speeds are much different between 67 (with shoulders) and 78 (no shoulders).

I donno... I knew this one guy that drove hiway 395 at about 90 miles an hour simply because it appeared wide open...

My "commandment" is to understand that sometimes, I will slow down cars, and sometimes cars will slow me down. That means not to fret if a car gets "stuck" behind me for a few seconds. It also means not to weave through traffic just because a car is in front of me in line.

There are always, exceptions, of course, but I think the "no vehicle shall pass one more than once"' rule is basic courtesy.
