Traffic School

If funding can be arranged, the Judge hopes to start classes next month.

It will be interesting to see how it works out. I think the combination of issuing tickets and providing the incentive of education as an alternative to the consequences may in fact be an extremely effective way of reaching both motorists and cyclists, especially the multitudes in both camps that are not currently being reached through traditional cycling advocacy.

In my career as a driver, I have been issued 124 tickets. I have been to every "Traffic School", class & program offered. It sure is entertaining! But by the sheer number of tickets I've gotten, I'm not sure it has been very effective. NO, WAIT! It HAS been effective! I drive with my eyes on the REARVIEW MIRROR much more than I used to.

But if it offers a way out of a ticket, I'm all for it!

(oh, BTW, those were NOT parking tickets!)

Oh yeah, and I have a "clean" driving record! So I'm off to get my TAXI PERMIT today!

This is garbage. This reinforces the idea that the problem is bicyclists, who are somehow an injury hazard to others on the road. Bicyclists can do little damage, if any, to anyone other than themselves on the street. Why do governments waste thier time on this rather than the people who really cause carnage on the roads, car drivers!

In every car bicycle accident, they should make the driver take a "share the road" traffic school presentation.

What about reinforcing that cyclists, while they have all the same rights to the road, also have responsibilities.

This is something I have mentioned in the "cops don't know the law" thread. While cops may not know the laws... how many cyclists obey the law?

You would think that it would be more efficient to educate all road users *before* they start using vehicles, but I guess that would be expensive or something.
