Thank you ABATE!
ABATE, the motorcycle safety advocacy organization has come through for all 2-wheeled roadway users. Whether it is a motorcycle or a bicycle. What they have successfully done in Iowa is lobby the legislature & have had it passed that all high school kids taking driver's ed. now have as part of the curriculum a considerable amount taught to them about how to properly & safely behave when encountering a cyclist.
A co-worker of mine is part of her ABATE group & publishes their newsletter & she told me about this. After hearing about it I almost gave her a big kiss, but did thank her for it. I knew they were working on it but did not realize they had got it passed until recently.
Now all Iowa Drivers Ed. students will be taught how to react & behave when they encounter a motorcyclist or a bicyclist on the roadways beyond what used to be taught, which amounted to no more then 1 small paragraph in the book & no questions on the test. I will find out what is in the curriculum though, that I do not know yet.

ABATE Could teach cyclists a bit about effective advocacy with teeth. local advocacy organizations should look at ABATE and their advocacy platform for cues.......
good on ya, N_C. ABATE's got some teeth and influence out there, Iowa will gradually become a safer place for cyclists for their involvement in drivers ed cirriculum modifications.

And don't forget about the sub organization of ABATAE called MAST
Municipal Association to Strengthen Tolerance
I heard that MAST and ABATE will one day merge into one large coalition called MASTABATE which will allow us to take things into our own hands
you all were thinking it, I just said it
