reflective tape on rims

where do you put them? right on the rim? won't that affect braking when the brake pad runs over them and would visibility be compromised when black streaks get imprinted on the tape?

I have some of these and a little piece wraps around each spoke. That way, each piece is a tube and visible from all angles when the wheel is moving.

I'd never put tape on the braking surface. But between the braking surfaces on deep rims is just as visible.
