    Bloomington, MN

    HI All,
A note from the City of Bloomington, MN. Hope to see many of you at the meeting.
    Scot Gore

Bloomington is currently undertaking an Alternative Transportation Plan with the goal of developing a comprehensive system for inter- and intra-city travel. Alternative transportation includes but is not limited to: walking, bicycling, personal transportation assistance devices and rollerblading -- and their connections with transit (LRT and bus).

We'd like to gather the input of anyone who lives/bikes/walks/or uses transit in Bloomington. Our first public Open House is next Thursday, August 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Bloomington Civic Plaza, 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road. Public input will also be solicited via a citizen task force, focus groups, e-mail and written comments, and a survey, available August 10 - 31 on the City Web page at www.ci.bloomington.mn.us keywords: Alternative Transportation. A community open house will be scheduled later this fall to allow for public review of the draft Alternative Transportation Plan.

I'm a Planner working on the project so feel free to contact me if you have any questions, thanks.

Scot, I won't be able to attend, but I hope continued support for the reopening of the old Cedar Avenue railroad bridge would be a topic. I know that's not a Bloomington city concern, but obviously residents of Bloomington have a major stake in that issue. Similarly, I wish there were a river crossing at 35W.

Actually the Long Meadow bridge is directly the responsibility of Bloomington. The city is the one that condemed and closed it.

Bloomington has pledged a 100 million (I think, don't quote me) of city money to it's refurbishment. I don't know if you attended the bridge rally two weeks ago, but it was huge turnout and Anne Lenceski's (sp?) effort to get the a rehab effort funded at the state level got a big boost. I think the early estimates is that it will take 300 million. So....if the city can do a 3rd, the state a 3rd, and the feds a 3rd we've got ourselves a restored crossing.

    Thanks for the reply.

I didn't realize it was the city's deal. I did follow the rally and know there are partial commitments to finance the project. Thanks for posting these topics here.
