Why discuss bike-car crashes in this forum?

Why discuss bike-car crashes in this forum? What is the purpose of doing so? What is YOUR purpose of doing so? What do you try to achieve by reading and posting to threads about specific bike-car crashes?

Same reason you get rubber-neckers at the scene of a crash.

I'm not trying to achieve anything. Why do you think anything should , or even can be achieved?

. . . and I think you probably need to ride your bike more instead of making this sort of reply to a legitimate question.

In my mind, advocacy and safety are not about constant dribble about how yet another cyclist was unjustly, tragically run down, off, over, whatever.

If discussing the crash serves useful for education, why not? And that's not just second guessing who was at fault. We ALL goof up from time to time, but by sheer luck or the grace of God (take your pick) nothing happens. It usually takes a couple of things to go wrong for a crash to occur. If you can be aware of one more cause of a crash, maybe you will eliminate it next time you ride.

I'm here to share ideas.

But not just to bash cagers

I would rather learn about somethings by hearing how it went for other people.

They say it's good to learn from your mistakes.
I say it's divine to learn from other people's.

It sure as heck ain't for the discussion. I'd rather start a friendly conversation about global warming at church.

Of course you're all following HH down the garden path he wants to lead you on ...

(Notice he left all context out of his question, so you don't actually know it's related to another thread? A thread he can triumphantly return to with his "proof"...)

Then why do we discuss VC, because if there's no need to discuss car/bike crashes, then it would follow that there's no need to discuss VC.

I love this place, I go away for a few months and nothing's changed.

I figure that it is just the human interest in anecdotes that relate to our lives and communities. Will this idle chatter ever save lives? Maybe.

And when you are reading this forum, but especially when posting to it, or riding your bike, why don't you use your head?

Try thinking, you might like it.

Because it is possible to learn from what others write--you know, that is, when they're not trying to contradict the majority.

As both a motorist and a cyclist, I find behavioral reminders valuable. The lessons here are sometimes harsh, but better dealt with here than on the road.

Fortunately, I am a very fast reader, so skimming over the rediculous threads is easy.
