These folks were driving too fast and/or too close for conditions. Check out the reader comments.

ps-this is unrelated to you Pete. I know you would have been driving appropriately here (really no sarcasm intended)

Thats considerate. But why bring it up (your speeding) if it is out of sight of everyone, why bring it up if it affects no one else? You must know there is an unsafe (much of it speed related) driving problem in the US. Why bring up your speeding in the context of this discussion without up front providing the context and details around your experience? Without that context you are either encouraging unsafe speeding or just trying to fuel argument.

They just bumped up a long 30MPH road to 45MPH yesterday. Drivers are easily going 50+ now, on a formerly (relatively) slow road--Most traffic went about 35-40MPH.

Who cares if someone speeds out on a lone empty freeway... it really is a victimless crime, provided the road is indeed empty.

It is the speeders on roads shared with others that are a real problem.

Russian billionaire and parliamentarian Suleiman Kerimov was in critical condition this weekend after crashing his black Ferrari Enzo in Nice on the French Riviera. The car split in half after striking a tree, and subsequently burst into flames.

The accident is the latest in a string of high-profile Enzo crashes over the past 12 months that have destroyed four of the $1 million cars. The specific cause of Kerimov's crash is not yet known.

Gee, I can't imagine what contributed to those Enzo crashes.

"Mr. Sulu, how soon can you get us up to warp speed?"

Let's see... um... how about "driver error"?

Nobody can convince me that a member of the Russian Parliament has put in the seat time and taken the training & instruction to handle a car like the Enzo at its limit.

And if he had, he wouldn't have done something that stupid.

I can drive the snot out of my Civic, and I'm a relative novice at autocrossing. There's no way in hell that I'm going to try driving the same way on public roads, though.

NASCAR? On TV, it sucks. God, it sucks. Might as well be watching a ticker to see everyone's position... oh wait, they do that now.

Seeing it in person only reinforced how much it sucks on TV, because to me, and from my vantage point in the infield & pits at the little Richmond, VA, pseudo-oval, ...it's insanely kickass.

I didn't think I would enjoy it, but I'm a car guy, and I had to stick around at least this one time. When the green flag finally dropped and those big V8s spun up at full throttle onto the back straight, I was sold. A well-tuned motor makes such a fantastic sound.

Plus, the stadium-like track lets everybody see everything during the race. I love rallying, I think it's the pinnacle of driver skill in 4-wheeled motorsports, but it's really not as fan-friendly as NASCAR.

And, yeah, the footage below is by me with my camera at the end of the pit wall.

I've been to the shooting range and seen guys with match grade pistols who can barely keep 10 shots on the paper. People take horrible photos with Leicas. What surprises you about the above-referenced article?

Because folks like you are clearly admitting "driving at those speeds, in traffic!"

Is it any wonder that some cyclists "have a great deal of fear" with clowns like you on the road.

Pete, I had to edit one of your posts a bit. Perhaps you could reserve your opinions for gear, and not make such personal attacks on other members. You're still a guest here too, and it would be appreciated if you could behave more appropriately.

And thank you for the assistance you provided Mr. Smashy yesterday.

Pete you need to mouth YOUR OWN WORDS again before you go off and criticize anyone else...

Anyone can read the entire post, or the entire thread. Your abysmal road sharing habits are open to public display.
