Hit and Run Driver still at large

http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=77307

I would be willing to bet that the drivier was an Illegal!

DENVER - Munsey Knox lay bruised and unconscious in a hospital for several days after he was hit by an SUV failing to yield the right of way.

Knox, 25, was bicycling east along W. 29th Avenue on his way to work an early morning shift at a hotel downtown.

When he reached the intersection with Zuni Street, an on-coming car turned directly in front of him, crashing headlong into his bicycle. Witnesses say Knox was hurled from his bike onto the top of the SUV, striking his head, before falling to the pavement in the middle of the street.

The vehicle was described as a light brown or beige Chevy Tahoe, driven by a Hispanic male about 30 years of age. Witnesses say the Tahoe kept driving south along Zuni, with Knox's bicycle stuck to the front bumper. Passengers on an RTD bus rushed to help the bicyclist, but they couldn't get the license plate number of the Tahoe.

Knox's fiancee says she wasn't sure if he would recover from his head trauma.

"There were a few days when he really wasn't himself, and that was really scary," said Jennifer Toothaker. "I was trying to prepare myself for if he was not going to be the same, every again."

Knox is slowly recovering. He never recovered his bicycle, but he hopes it could help lead police to the hit and run driver. It's a blue Redline Conquest Sport bike, last seen riding down Zuni Street on the hood of a Chevy Tahoe.

"I think with all the hit-and-run accidents recently, there should be... I don't want to use the word punishment, but there should be justice," said Knox. "Justice would be nice."

If you can help identify the driver of the SUV, call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Your information could make you eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.

I'd be willing to bet that the OP has racist tendencies.

+1

However, I always have my doubts for hit and run drivers as to whether they are under the influence, not licensed, or have other issues since the punishment for hit and run is usually less than facing the other issues... plus there is the chance of getting away with it.

I have thought that the best way to stop hit and run is to make the penalty equal to the worst possible combination of charges if the person had stayed.

For example:

DUI while not wearing required corrective lenses.

DUI while driving on a suspended license.

I'm one liberal who does NOT agree with the above--what there is of an American left would do well to examine our sometimes hysterical excess of concern with bigotry. Just one ****'s opinion, here.

I'd be willing to bet that the people calling the OP a racist are clueless about the illegal situation in Denver. Not a bicyling incident but here's another case that happened this weekend. Scumbag hit a 5-year-old kid and ran. http://cbs4denver.com/crime/local_story_258152507.html

show me the data correlating imigration status and driving ability. scumbags come from everywhere (there are many domestic and foreign sources). making assumptions, like the OP did, do tend towards being racist. and i am familiar with the immigration issues facing denver. they do not overlap with cycling issues facing denver IMO.

It's not about driving ability; it's about incentive to run. There is correlation between the number of illegals in states and fatal hit-and-run rates in states. Correlation doesn't necessarily mean causation, but it does suggest that the issue needs to be looked into. Also, unlicensed drivers are over 66 times more likely to run. What percentage of illegals in Denver are unlicensed?
