During the 'real' summer I keep very well hydrated during the day - several water bottles full. I take a single water bottle on my ride home, but usually only drink a 1/4 of it, mainly to wet the mouth. I hydrate well after getting home.
It is truely amazing how great 95F/20%RH (today) feels compared to 115F/35% (a couple of weeks ago), the later is brutal.
August 2007 was hottest on record with an average temperature of 96F. That includes the highs and the night time lows.

Another thing to point out about riding centerish in a narrow lane (by narrow I mean 10-11ft, not a near WOL) is that motorists approaching see you there from a good distance and immediately realize they can not pass in same lane, this allow them to plan a merge early before slowing down much. The times I have experimented with riding far to the right in such a lane, many more motorists will approach closely, then slow down to your speed as they realize (as most drivers are considerate) that they can not pass safely in the same lane. Then they have more difficult smoothly passing with minimal delay as they are close to you and at your speed.

Mod note: Enough with the dead animal pictures, guys. (Dead machine pictures are fine.)

perhaps this helps explain:

To sum up: Caveman see animal, not SUV.
But here is the quote that can provide fodder for a whole new cycling like the animals we are theory:
"Though we are more likely to meet death via an SUV than a charging wildebeest, the results indicated subjects were slower and less successful at detecting changes to vehicles than to animals. "

HH, agreeing with six jour's idea of driver education? My, your interactions in traffic with clueless drivers must be increasing.

I have so many problems with car operators while driving my truck at work, I couldn't count them all.
I go home and get on my bike and it's like the cars for the most part are ok, unless they don't see me.
I had this one B___h hang a lewy right in front of me, I barely stopped, if I would have been in the truck she would be pushing up daisies, cuz that Frod don't stop.

That's exactly right. Riding further left makes it clear in no uncertain terms SOONER that they will not be able to pass you without changing lanes, thus giving them more time to plan for it.

yes
That's kind of funny, as I've occasionally thought that some of the hardest-core VCers really ought to spend some time in a car being held up by cyclists. The car-free guys, especially, seem to believe that driving a car automatically turns one into an evil monster.
IMO, there's a lot of "walking in another man's boots" that ought to be done here.
