I ran into a guy who carried a pistol in a bento type bag on the top tube in Hannibal MO, he was a nice guy and gave me a map(I was on a long bike tour)but still was a little scary... he said he carried it cause there were a lot of nuts out there...
its hard to point a gun at a car from the ditch where you just landed, and I think that a driver would know that if they were the type to really worry about.

Actually, I would bike to the range if I didn't usually have so many rifles and pistols to lug out there, along with the ammo, whose weight adds up fast.

Having firearms shouldn't and doesn't automatically get you respect (especially among firearms aficionados - they care more about whether you are safe and proficient with them)...I carry concealed while biking, not because of a possible vehicular assault, but because of a possible assault while on a bike path or stopped somewhere off the road. One can never be too careful.
