In my experience most stop at least for lights. Some then go, others wait for green. In some cases even I have gotten frustrated enough to eventually go when it seems the sensors do no tadmit I exist.

Signs are a different stort, few stop.

Uh, actually this is pretty obvious... as it will never turn green for a cyclist, it will be green for some other road user... perhaps the straight through or the cross street.

I know for me for instance where I have waited at a similar light that never senses cyclists, I have started off when the other traffic was clear only to have a motorist finally pull up right behind me and trigger the light... but of course I was already moving and more than half way through then... What do you think the motorist thought coming up and seeing me already moving through a red? No doubt "Look, one of them stupid cyclists, eh Doris..."

I wonder how often "scofflaw" cyclists are seen doing this legal move, but are mistaken as scofflaws?

Here would be an obvious solution, if you had repeated violent CM incidents in your town:

Organize a second monthly bike ride. Make it more fun than CM, with the same kind of freak-flag feel, but with a more controlled environment (planned route with better corking). Keep the police presence low, with organizers/volunteers recruited to keep the peace. Free donuts.
this is pretty much what happened here in New York, with the creation of Brooklyn Critical mass. It rides on the second friday of every month and actually has police involvement to escort the ride (no planned route) but it's just as quirky as any CM should without the necessary assholisms on rides without cop coorperation (a la Manhattan Critical Mass, where that cyclist getting pummeled by a cop in the youtube video was)

I found a blog by a guy who has taken part and described the ride.

https://brianonthemove.vox.com/librar...ows-heart.html

seems a little different that what was described in the paper but it did mention that there was

" the Control Force a Group of Vancouver Police Officers that followed and tracked the ride and likely stepped in at few crucial moments to reduce the stress that some riders and drivers have during the ride. I do not see the officers as ******* or supporting the event, but when a Police Supervisor approched the Riders at the Top the Granville Bridge and said "It's 8:30" "Lets Call this a night guys four people have already went to the hospital and it's time to go home" His statement was factually true an a reasonable voice after two and half hours of free expression in a democratic society. "

That's it? Traffic fines up there mean nothing unless you apply for a license?
Even then, in Quebec, they only last 2 years. So if you apply for you drivers liscence more than 2 years after the offense, you are free and clear.

One of the questions I asked the cop (still, no answer) relates to a fine and a licence.

Cyclists are not required to have either a drivers licence or any another form of ID with them when riding a bicycle, and a traffic offense on a bicycle in no way links to a motorists record. It's a personal fine, nothing more.

It's seems he's implicating the two are related. I wish he'd respond to clear things up, but maybe his intent is to make the issue unclear or tarnish the image of all cyclists along with the CM crowd.
