Will this compromise the security of my lock?

I've dropped the crossbar of my Abus Granite X a couple of times and the plasic housing has come off. It easily 'snaps' back on again but will this in anyway compromise the security of the lock?

Doubtful. The Abus locks are decent construction. On any u-lock, the plastic is essentially there for cosmetics and to protect the finish on your bike. If you don't see any new points of entry for tools underneath the plastic, I think it's safe to assume the security is uncompromised.

I wish we saw more of those outside of europe... Abus rules, they are the best U-locks in the world, bar none. The Granite Extreme is twice the protection of a Krypto NYC lock, any model. A bit pricey to get for me, how much do they cost in Europe?

Yeah the X 54 is the one I am considering ordering for about £60+shipping, it's as good as any NYC Krypto with the extra of the parabolic D ring. I don't think I actually need the protection of the Granite Extreme, it'a just my bike not the bloody space shuttle lol. That is a serious lock

ALOT of people use em around town (London). As has happened to mine the plastic housing might fall off. I have seen a couple of others on sheffield stands without the plastic housing
