Anybody See The Bike Cops At The RNC?

I saw a brief clip on CNN of the cops doing crowd/demonstrator control at the RNC. There were obviously some bike cops there, and i noticed that they were using a technique where they were holding their bike upright on its back wheel and thrusting the front wheel at the demonstrators.

I've never seen this technique before.

What do you think? I think you could have grabbed the front wheel and pulled it away from the cop (then used is as a shield from the subsequent billy-club whompin' 'til they got out the pepper spray).

If they were cool fixy tricksters, they could have done that while balancing on the bike.

I think the minute you tried to touch one of their bikes, you'd be at the receiving end of a truncheon and an arrest for assault.

A good number of bike cops around here are in shape. And I think they get a "team" discount from the LBS across from campus - they all ride, mostly, 2008 Rincons.

I clocked one going 17mph+ on with my cyclometer while drafting him. And he was big.

The footage I saw showed a Very Large woman standing alone against a line a cop bikers, getting pushed as you describe and already receiving lots of pepper spray. I couldn't decide whether she had the wherewithal to retreat from the police, but I guess she could have sat down or put her hands up or whatever. Difficult to say, there wasn't much information in the vid. She did have a seat though, when the cops pushed her down with the front tire.

The technique itself is vulnerable against determined foes in a more violent setting, but the police would certainly escalate in that situation.

Those are plain old gas masks, some of the guys in riot gear are carrying gas grenade launchers. The guys without masks have them in bags.

Most of those guys also look fairly fit. Remember they are wearing bullet resistant vests which tend to look like crap under a polo shirt; makes you look like a fatty.

I did not see the bike cops in the TV coverage. But I was amazed looked at who the Republican delegates were.

I live in Houston where white anglos are 30% of the population (white anglos are 50% of the Texas population). I was stunned to see the Republican delegates. About 3,000 white anglos. No Hispanics. No Blacks. No Asian-Americans. It looked like an "Aryan Brotherhood" rally. When did the Republican Party become the "White People Only" party?

On Sunday, John McCain was asked on a TV talk show "How long will the Republicans survive as the 'white people's party'?" McCain answered "Not for very long, obviously".

wow, who would've thunk that bike shorts and gas masks don't mix, fasion-wise? Instead of emanating authority, they just look stupid.

Yeah but with the guys in blue shirts you can clearly tell that it is a gut hanging out over their shorts and not any sort of vest.

Does anyone realize that "Anglo" and "Anglo-Saxon" have clear definitions, and that most "white" people don't meet them?

Does it even matter in a world where some of the only racist stupidity that's tolerated is against "white" people. -And much of it comes from dopey "white" people. When can we get past this ****?

You're **** sapiens sapiens. Get it?

+1. It's the past vs. the future, unfolding before our eyes.
