Elderly cyclist’s tire slashed

Senior says 'insane’ man chastised her for parking bike near his dog

At 72, she bikes to the grocery store for her fruits and veggies to protect her heart and lungs. She is going through daily radiation therapy in her battle against cancer, but she said only a handful of people, including medical staff, know.

But this independent Halifax senior, who asked that her name not be used, was left shaken and afraid after a man yelled at her and slashed her tires Tuesday afternoon.

The man became angry when she locked her bicycle next to his dog. The owner of the dog "said dogs were more important than bicycles," the woman said.

She said he called her an old lady and he said: "I’m going to let the air out of the tires or slash them."

"I pulled over to the sidewalk and my bicycle had no tire at all in the front wheel, so it couldn’t steer. I fell and the bike fell and I cut my leg and my knee, and I was lying on my stomach."

Pity that she did not have something to cut the leash with - that would keep the jerk busy for a few hours.

I hope this a-hole is justly punished. Sheesh, what a creep.

I imagine the folks of Halifax will be on the lookout for this clown, it's not THAT big of a city, and being a dog owner you know he'll be outside again soon.
Yea, U-lock upside the head seems about right.

I would imagine, if the local constable posted someone to watch that location, at the same approximate time every day, he probably will be back. It is not a big town, people usually keep the same daily routine, and the suspect probably is not all that bright. It wouldn't be hard to find out who he is.
I would be also that he has been arrested before. Proably has had problems with society, people and the law before.

Guy sounds deranged.

I had a bike tire slashed at the grocery store (while I was inside) this summer. Seemed to be done with a screwdriver or something fairly blunt. Never found out who did it or why.

we all know how some people feel about cyclists and cycling, but this one is the craziest thing ive ever heard.

"dogs are more important than bicycles".... as if the two are

a) mutually exclusive and
b) in conflict

mondaycurse 10-21-08 08:04 PM

She should have run the dog over.

fixed, the dog didn't do any harm to her and was probably very gentle, hence why she parked next to him.

Hold him back and let granny take the first shot.

Get the owner, not the dog. It's not the dog's fault. SUE the owner lady. Seriously. Sue him into homelessness.
