I don't get everyone's pile on of the OP. Perhaps "extreme" was the wrong word, but, his intent, to point out the dangers of high speed descents, is valid. Maybe it will cause some to think about things like tire pressures and braking techniques.

I don't have the numbers in front of me, so I will confess up front to talking out of my hat, but I would bet that statistically speaking, going downhill is safer than almost any activity that involves a moving cyclist and a busy intersection. Which sorta renders the OP's point about extreme cycling moot.
