Bike Vandalism?

has anyone else had their bike vandalised? last night someone decided that it would be fun to pour soda all over my bike. I noticed the ripped up cup under my bike and realized the pavement was wet also, then I felt my bike and the entire thing was sticky... the entire frame, half the back wheel, seat, cranks, and pedals.

I dont understand why someone would really feel the need to do that....

It took me almost an hour to get the entire thing clean again.

So what do you guys do when/if something like this happens to you?

I don't understand how someone could break off car antennas and mirrors.

Oh well, sucks to be in the middle of a battle of the stupid.

I haven't had a bike vandalized yet, but I've had one car vandalized twice.

Some people's kids :)

At my first college there was a person(or group of people) who went around really late at night destroying bike wheels(taco'd them, I never did figure out how it was done). At least a dozen bikes got hit this way, and nobody ever figured out who did it.

I'm surprised that people at work haven't let the air out of my tires (a harmless joke)

'Knock Wood' never had an issue.

I had a tire destroyed while locked up outside the grocery store. Seemed like maybe a screwdriver or something like it was jammed into my sidewall. No way it was not vandalism. No witnesses, and so nothing ever came of it. My bike was locked up with my cargo trailer attached, btw.

this definitely isnt bike specific

my passenger side mirror is currently duct taped on to my car :(

and no, its not like it just got clipped, it happened to another car on my block at the same time

A coworker of mine came in in the office one day and laughingly announced that a Really Big Dog had just peed all over my bike.
Most people in the neighborhood where I work have lap dogs, but a few have large dogs, including one with an Irish Wolfhound.
A sticky soda would have been much worse.

So, what type of big dog ended up peeing on the co-workers car?:innocent:

Or maybe the guy with the soda got him.

Unwrap the tape from the bars and move the brifters up the bars a cm or two and also maybe tilt them inward a bit. Then try tilting the bars up 5 or 10 degrees..

I've only had my bike vandalised when it was parked on a rack or locked near a train station. I suspect the OP had his bike locked to a rack full of kids Huffys or Xmart bikes. If you don't want your bike vandalised, hide your bike. Since using this technique, nothings happened.

No bike vandalism, yet. I haven't had the need to leave my bike outside much. I have had all the driver's side windows shot out of my car once, right in front of my house, I also had the rear window of that same station station wagon broken out so someone could steal about 40 cents worth of returnable cans, and leave the heavy duty jumper cable and my art supplies there. While driving my dad's car to work one day, the roof of the car was hit by .22 cal. bullet, apparently after I'd parked the car in the lot behind work. I filed police reports but of course nothing much came of them. There have been several incident in metro Detroit of hundreds of cars being vandalized in a single night., including incidents in Oak Park and several Downriver suburbs. I really hate vandalism, it far worse than theft because it's purely destructive and pointless.

My bike got stolen and thrown off a bridge late one night. I still haven't figured out how they got it; I had it locked to a large sign. They must have lifted it over the top, standing on each others shoulders?

Anyway, the police fished it out of the water for me with a hook and rope. Fortunately, nothing was broken, but it took a lot of cleaning to get rid of the stink.
