Reflective tape and paint job

I'm re-painting an old Fuji road frame. I've stripped it down to steel. This was my plan and I wanted to get some thoughts on it. I'm going to make reflective tape part of the paint job. I was going to spray primer then lay some rings of reflective tape. Mask over those rings and spray the whole bike. Take off the mask and clear coat the whole thing.

Questions.
Will this work?

Will the clear coat affect the tape's reflectiveness?

Would it be better to put the tape on top of the whole paint job?

Thanks in advance.

I really want to be constructive here, but I can't.
I'm truly sorry.
All I can think when I read that is....yikes.

Tape over the paint.

paint it first, do a good job on it (there are several guides to do-it-yourself bike painting around).

then tape it.

also I'm a big fan of tape on the rims between the spokes (not on the braking surface of course)

and your body is the largest area visibible to a motorist, so reflective fabric tape on your legs, arms, torso.

and lights. lots of bright lights.

The tape won't keep your frame from rusting, and will peel much more easily than paint. Better to paint the whole thing and then add the tape... Clearcoat over the tape if you must.

Thanks for the advice everyone, it is much appreciated!

You could try using reflective paint instead of tape

Actually the original question has me curious.
Since I have lots of rings of reflective tape on my bike, and they tend to get rubbed or peeled off if rubbed the wrong way. (like when a stand is clamped around them, etc)

So if the tape could be protected under a clear coat so they don't snag on things that would be neat.
Assuming it doesnt mess up their reflective quality...
