Does it really matter?

It's like a saxophone joke:

Q: A tenor sax, alto sax, and bari sax are all thrown from the top of a five-story building. Which hits the ground first?

A: It doesn't matter, as long as they all hit really, really hard.

Hope he gets extra time for being a moron too.
He certainly has an interesting theory of what is effective in education. Does he also advocate a mandatory death penalty for late homework and if not why?

I do wonder what 'lesson' he was hoping to teach them.

Hadn't the perp stopped practicing medicine? He probably found out he didn't like people.

I'd also like to address the notion that these cyclists did something to contribute to this incident. That's totally false. They didn't recognize that the perp was already out of control. Not a contributing factor. He's a hazard to anyone that drives or lives along that road, ignore cyclists for the time being. He's probably also a hazard on most other roads. Too bad people like him don't lose their license to drive. I'm sure there are people like the Dr. driving around that have killed people with their driving, and are still doing the same crazy stunts.

The cyclists were not following... he cut in front of them... then slammed on the brakes. He did exactly what your "only situation" calls out.

What's the latest? Thought the trial was set to begin on or around March 6.

According to this, the trial is supposed to start within 10 days of March 6. I can't find any news articles or blog posts about a trial starting, yet.

The LA County courts site charges you to search its records and I didn't want to put up my credit card just to know that his trial had been postponed or something.

Actually "do no harm" was never in the Hippocratic Oath. It was said by another ancient physician, because doctor's treatments were more likely to kill than save a patient. Read it only a few days ago, and do you think i can find it now...

Doctors still admit to killing 90,000 patients a year in the US. The true number killed is likely much higher. Two more spandex-wearing cyclists won't change that total -- or mindset that goes with it.

I'm sure "do no harm" is codified in the licensing requirements for most states. If he's maintaining his license, that should probably change.

According to the D.A.'s office, March 26th is the next proceeding in the case. They said it was on the calendar for a "trial date setting" and a 995 motion, which is apparently a motion to overturn the finding of probable cause from the preliminary hearing. I'll try to check back after that date to see what's next

On a side note, I would have actually pulled over and apologized to a cyclist I pulled in front of (in my defense it was dusk, all vehicles except for the cyclists had their lights on), if the "teach them a lesson" mindset wasn't so rampant.
