Just a thought

So I got done reading this article: http://www.tucsonbikelawyer.com/you-...et-or-dontcha/, where it highlights some unscrupulous behavior by some Tuscon area police ( south of Phoenix a ways) and it occurred to me, maybe a good "safety" device would be a helmet camera. Sure the chances of this happening to anyone are pretty slim, but if I'm getting accused of hitting a car then I think I'd want some more proof then just hearsay.

But what do you guys think? Would it be worth it to add helmet cam to the list of possible safety items? Or am I just over thinking this?

I don't think a HC would give enough info.

If you read the blog note this part:
"They can be given tickets for lots of things. If they get left hooked (oncoming traffic makes left turn into them) they get a ticket for failure to yield. (Yes that happens to my clients.) If right hooked, they get a ticket for passing on the right. (Yes again.) If hit from behind, they get a ticket for making an improper turn into traffic. (Yup, in fact I have one of these right now.) And then there’s always failure to control speed. I had a guy who was hit in the bike lane, in front of witnesses, by a motorist making an illegal U-turn. Although this happened in broad daylight at 4 PM, the cyclist got a ticket for not having a headlight on his bike! He was given the ticket whilst strapped to a gurney and being loaded into the ambulance."

Interesting website and a great find. It's bookmarked. :)

I have nothing more to contribute here, aside from my agreement with noisebeam.

Yeah I guess if you're not going to get enough cameras for 360 degree coverage (which would be kinda ridiculous anyways) it really isn't going to do much then show you falling on the ground. Being alert while riding would still be the best and safest way to go then.

Glad I could help you (^_^)

With apologies to the Tucson cycling community, I can only add this:

Tucson is OFF my list of places to visit. Until the PD gets straight, vigilantism is the only alternative.
