Bicyclist killed close to where I ride...
This bicyclist was killed last night close to where I ride. He was dressed in all black, no lights, trying to cross in the middle of the highway.

OK, not a positive thing here. Terrible that anyone should go down like that -- even though he was largely at fault for it. Lights after dark -- mandatory! Dark clothing at night -- D-U-M-BBB!
The ONLY thing I will say about cars and drivers in this case is: you who commented on this story, YOU KNOW the area is a hazard, so SLOW THE F DOWN! Watch out and pay more attention -- not that it would have helped this situation, these two drivers did the best they could, it appears -- but those commenters show at least a written awareness of the hazardous nature of that area. Your timetable isn't worth a life.

I just had a messed up call at the FD today. The street I use to commute to my station had a kid get struck by a vehicle, destroyed his bike and sent him into the windshield busting it inward. He was cut up and hurtin'. Happened in broad daylight. Problem is he was on the wrong side of the road, no helmet, dark clothing and unaware of his surroundings. He's going to be ok save for a break in his left leg and some scars on his face. Kind of shakes me up having to work on a cyclist who's been hit rather than just read about it.

Smoke..
I know how you fell bro.. I had to work a fatality Bicycle accident about a year ago. I am not sure what the cause was, if it was cyclist error or the driver of the vehicle, I never got a full report from the pd.
It does hit home though, I have seen it way to many times, I could only hope that both drivers and riders alike would start paying more attention to each other on the road way..

I'm afraid in this case it was arrogance on the cyclists part. He was all over the place apparently, typical invincible teenager. He's in good shape all things considered.
