Local Radio Station Airs Public Service Bike Announcements

I live in a small rural area. The local radio station contacted 4 area business and professional men to come in and record a public service announcement. The four included a doctor, a pharmacist, a pastor, and myself, a portrait/wedding photographer. They gave us each different ad copy to read. I chose one that read something like, "Hi. This is Larry Plumlee. You may have seen me riding my bicycle around the area. Biking is growing in popularity. It's great for your health. Plus we live in a very beautiful part of the country for cycling. We obey the same traffic laws as cars, trucks, and motorcycles. We are watching out for you, so please watch out for us. And remember to give us at least 3' when passing. It's the law. "
Glad to see their support!

Kudos to your local radio station. How many times a day will they be aired, and at what times?

Not sure on the times or how often the ads run. It's a country station, I don't listen to it much, have only heard a few of them. I have had several people tell me they heard the ads.

Who is the parent company? If they have (and I'm fairly sure that they would) have one or more station in my area it would useful in hopefully getting them to air bicycle PSA's as well.

I'll check into that, but I think the station is still owned by a local family.

Thank you, ironic isn't it that it might be "better" if it were part of a corporate family?

Is there not a few persons on this forum who could contact radio and tv and ask for that type of public service announcement? You know, they are required to show psa or community service for their license, so they need those things.
Are there not those who could write them, and send them to the stations? To get more of the same.
dc

Which is why we see so many seat belt, anti-smoking, anti-drinking and driving, and all the other PSA's. About a year ago I sent a letter to one my local TV stations asking why they didn't do any stories or PSA's on bicycle safety. And all I got back was the usual platitudes about "how dangerous" it is to "bike and/or run" on the streets.

I guess it hasn't dawned on them that the "mean" streets might be a little kinder and safer IF they would do stories and PSA's on bicycle safety.

That's great -- good for the station.

And ... country music! Go figure.
