Only about one person in ten thousand who takes a film of this type will turn it in. I will turn the film in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqhntBbuLzw but catch about one percent of them the action is over before I get my camera out. So you can estimate only one in a million cops will be caught the other nine hundred ninty nine thousand nine hundred ninty nine will end up with a false criminal record. In portland Or the national lawyers guild shows up whenever the police show due to the fact a police officer pepper sprayed a network news cammera man with a canister used for control on crowds it was filmed. Also Alan Graf won a two hundred thousand dollar lawsuit for the police misconduct at critical mass.

Some refreshers for some folks here...

Yes there were some of us who were either:

1. Suspicious of the cyclist.
2. Suspicious of the video as it was missing possible lead-up context.

...cause there was the possiblity that the cop had been relayed instructions further up the street to stop a certain cyclist for some reason or another with the cyclist trying to evade.

Of course within a matter of days - via media reports and PD info releases - it became clear that the officer acted alone and on spot - assault.

The lawsuit is quite appropriate and I really don't blame ANYONE for leaving NY for ANY reason. Know a few folks about my age who said: "When I had a few decent paychecks - from hell I exited!" The impression I get is that NY is one mean, nasty and overly stress inducing place.

Apparently 1.5 million New Yorkers have left in the last decade alone.

=8-)

1.5 million NYers leaving
Nope actually... as of 2008, they'd gained about 300,000 people. No idea what the financial collapse will do, but prior to that they were still growing pretty steadily.

I loved the city - if I could ever have afforded to live there, I'd do it in an instant.

and the City of Portland deserved to pay more, police brutality on Portland Critical Mass rides between 2002 and 2005 was considerably worse than what Pogan was caught doing on film

Article:
First off, your 'article' is a trashy conservative opinion piece claiming a "new study", which they conveniently did not bother to link to or even bother naming, shows a population decline. Your article doesn't cite a source for anything. It is, in a nutshell, complete and utter garbage.

Have some real numbers. Here's the census data for 2000-2006, and 2000-2008 for New York City.

NYC department of public planning: 2000-2008: +4.4%
https://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/html/census/popcur.shtml

Official Census: NYC population change: +2.6%
