Lets talk about this video (conflict between cops and bikers)

I don't know the backstory behind this but if anyone does please feel free to share.

I only wish he had made better contact and I hope he ended up getting away.

Kid is dumb as a rock.

Super idea number 1- I think I'm going to physically attack this mass of cops on motorcycles.

Super idea number 2- I will do so by throwing my bike at them, then running into somebody's yard.

I hope he got his ass kicked.

this happened 2 blocks from my house I was present and saw this, everyone is at fault, the cop and the cyclist.
This does not belong is SS/FG, I don't care your reasons it has nothing to do with SSFG, move it where it belongs so actual dialog may take place over the incident, which to be honest doesn't ddoesn't have anything to do with bikes at all, the portland police have shot and killed 2 (3?) mentaly distraught people in the last 2 months and the group is marching towards a police precinct, it was a dumb event and accomplished nothing but increasing the hostility between police officers and civilians, particularly bicyclists, which I repeat the protest was in no way bicycle specific, everyone just rides bikes here, and how could you be cooler than having your bike WHILE sticking it to the man.
Those people mar the path to resolution and disgust me

As we all say: Your actions speak louder then words. And police dept. continent wide wonder why they have to spend so much time and $$ on public relations.

And yes as stated above, this kid is as dumb as a box of hammers (sorry, rock)

With all due respect, I don't see much safety or advocacy in the thread so far.

I'd like to know more about what happened and why. Were the cops there as *******, were they trying to break something up, and did I see correctly that one of the cops riding a motorcycle hit a person on their bike starting the whole bike throwing thing?

If as it appears that the cop struck the cyclist why was he so close to the crowd that he could strike a member of it with his bike? Or did he target that particular individual?

Does anyone have any more details on this incident? When did it occur and where? What were the circumstances?

Agreed, maybe it should be moved (again) to the political/religious group.

The guy ended up getting caught and is facing a felony. It was stupid, but at the same time, he will have an awesome story to tell. I wish he would have lasso-ed the cop with the main triangle. Cops get away with **** like this all of the time, like it was said this was a protest about cops killing homeless people or mentally challenged people (or both I don't really know) but I'd be willing to bet that those cops might get paid leave at the most. This kid hits a cop with a bike and (unfortunately) doesn't even seem to hurt the cop and there is a good chance he will end up serving time. Civilians have no rights against cops and why? Because they go through a ****ty 6 week training course and get handed a badge a gun to use at their discretion? If a cop assaults me, I should have the right to assault him/her back or at least defend myself, but you can't even do that.

Sadly, no one can't. Sadly, if one just taps a cop on the shoulder IF said cop wanted to be a jerk about it could get one a charge of "assaulting an officer." And yet, as others have noted they're almost always free to use whatever level of violence that they deem to be needed with little to no repercussions.

From my point of view: The motor cop did not properly control his motorcycle. He ran over a bicycle in front of him. The bicycle thrower committed assault & battery. Cop should have stopped like we are required to do in an accident. Unfortunately, he just had a bike thrown at him. I am no friend of the police, having been on the wrong side of the badge more than once. The bike throwing a$$clown deserves what he gets. He's no hero, just an idiot. Could have turned real ugly after that stunt.

Police are on the front lines of a lot of nasty $hit. Assaulting an officer should carry heavy penalties.

The cyclists as a group violated two laws before the incident: (1) Impeding traffic, and (2) Failure to yield right of way to an emergency vehicle. I'm not gonna say the guy who got his bike trashed deserved it, but hey, if you mess with the police, you're tempting fate.

And I agree with you about the cop, Flying Merkel. They just had an incident this week in the Dallas area where a cop was accelerating to catch up to a suspect but didn't have his lights on. A car pulled out in front of him (probably thinking that the cop was doing the speed limit as opposed to 2 to 3 times that; also it might have been a 4-way Stop), then when he saw the cop, just kind of stop the car where it was. The cop clipped the back of the car before going down an incline into a wooded area. What a dumbass. It was even funnier listening to the police spokesman try to defend the cop in front of the cameras (paraphrase): Reporter: "Isn't a police officer supposed to have his lights on if he's driving dangerously?" Spokesman: "If the other car wouldn't have been there, he would have been safe."

DUH.

With the video, I think the charges against the kid will get dropped. Any decent lawyer will turn the video into a hit and run by the cop, which it was, no concern by the cop about possible injury to the person that he ran into. Then the cop almost ran into a pedestrian. Real bad publicity for the cops, if the DA ever takes it to court. Especially when the initial protest was about cops killing people.

Portland motorcycle cops suck ass, they are glad to **** with cyclists every chance they get, I've seen them ram cyclists off their bikes with their motorbikes, they drag them by their hair and pepperspray/tazer them for no reason at all many times at CM rides or at antiwar protests in the past, they live for this **** and they practice whenever they can. I'm not sure when the incident in that video took place, but I'd say that tape is at least several years old now, CM has been completely dead in Portland since about 2006, thanks to the cops.

For as progressive a pro-cycling city as Portland is, they sure do have some Nazi cops.

Couldn't have anything to do with the fact CM is just a big group of cyclists breaking laws as they see fit.

Either follow the rules of the road, or register for use of the streets. Or get popped for not doing so. That's what everyone else does.

Looked like the cop rammed a bike before the kid threw the bike..That was unnecessary.... I'd be pised. . Cyclist have to watch their temper to both cops and motorists..

To be fair, he didn't give way when he should have. That said, the cop did not handle it properly at all, IMO...

What conflict? ...the idiot is doing his job of being an idiot, and the cop is doing his job of dealing with the idiot, where's the conflict?

Fell free to read prior post and links to determine that it took place a couple of days ago in protest of cop shootings.
