LAPD with the save:

https://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lano...le-thefts.html

Los Angeles police detectives preparing a bicycle-theft sting operation downtown got lucky Thursday evening when they arrested three men who allegedly tried to steal two bikes nearby.

Witnesses at Sunset Boulevard and Figueroa Street alerted police after they saw the suspects ride up on bikes, cut the locks, then ride away, guiding the two stolen bikes beside them, Lt. Paul Vernon said. The detectives, Vernon said, happened to at nearby drugstore, he said.

Lovely grammar for a news paper... "The detectives, Vernon said, happened to at nearby drugstore, he said."

Read any newspaper these days. It looks like you need to start shipping Hooked on Phonics to the copyeditors at least.

I'm sure it's a copy-edit mistake. The sentence was probably re-written several times, and this is a casualty of the edit process. Happens a lot. This is a pretty minor case, compared to, say, "Women, girls **** victims in Haiti quake aftermath."

It's great news that the LAPD is taking bike theft seriously, and ( at least for now ) took a few bike thieves off the streets. Stolen bikes have been a sort of tax on fitness and no-gas transportation. A lot of locks have guarantees that you can't collect on, most people don't have insurance ( I don't, and I'm not sure how this works for bikes? ) and, basically, when bad luck comes knocking, it sucks to be a cyclist.

Hopefully this is just the opening salvo.

Glad to see that the intended title of this thread wasn't "Wtf lapd".

Nice to see witnesses actually reporting bike thefts to police, also.

I liked the little tidbit that one of the thieves was riding a bike that was stolen from a Sheriff's deputy.

This reminds me of the last frame of this Yehuda Moon story:
