"The Cah is no longah King in the city of Boston!"
This just in:
"City Gets Bike Lane OK For Mass. Ave.
Published May 21, 2010 UPDATED 1:02 PM
BOSTON — Boston officials now have state and federal approval to install bike lanes on Massachusetts Avenue.
City officials say the lanes will run from Boston Medical Center to Symphony Hall.
Boston Transportation Commissioner Thomas Timlin said — on Bike to Work Day — that the Menino administration is committed to promoting bicycling.
“The mayor, in working with our state partners, has really said it loud, and said it clear, and put our money where our mouth is, and put the policy into practice, that the car is no longer king in the city of Boston,” Timlin said.
The bike lanes will be part of an $18 million reconstruction of Massachusetts Avenue, which uses federal and state funding." from WBUR.ORG
Many thanks to the organization "LIVABLESTREETS" and their excellent efforts on advocacy and infrastructure improvements. And many thanks to MASSBIKE for finally getting on board the infrastructure band wagon despite the foot dragging opponents who remain within the ranks and would prefer the unworkable strategies of the 1970's remain in place.

Thanks Buzzman. Always nice to get some positive news. Let's just hope the lanes don't
get buried under gigantic snow piles come February.

Isn't this the mayor that didn't know the difference between a catcher and a tight end?

but already the added sharrows and bike lanes are having a positive effect in sending the message that bikes belong on Boston's streets.

I've never been to Boston, but how does this single bike lane make the car no longer king of the streets? One step may start a journey, but it most certainly does not make a journey.

How right you are! But it is a milestone in a recent effort to make Boston less car-centric. This is not Boston's first bike lane (nor will it be it's last) but following recent additions of bike lanes and sharrows on Commonwealth Ave, which intersects the city east/west and now Massachusetts avenue, which runs north/south there appears to be a method to this madness.
