Has anyone caught the TV ad from the New Mexico Board of Tourism that promotes cycling (really cross-country MTB touring) in New Mexico? I found it pretty neat although the ad-agency probably should have consulted some advocacy and safety groups as the cyclist in the commercial is riding helmetless and performing some questionable traffic maneuvers.

Haven't seen it. I think they probably had ulterior motives - they were trying to make you think that the state is so good for biking that no-one ever has accidents. The motorists are so nice that you don't need to be careful riding on the streets

Did they have the little "Closed course. Do no try this at home." warning at the bottom of the screen?

i saw a spot for new mexico a few months ago, but it was more about how it was a nice place to live than a tourism commercial, it also promoted cycling. i think it showed a guy trying to ride his bike thru new york city, then flashed to how much nicer it was to ride in NM.
on a side note i was recently in albequerque, nm(sp?) and did a small bit of riding (road)and it was a nice place to ride. also seemed to have a large amount of other cyclists, more so then here.

there are no bicycles in the valley, the only bicycle you find in the valley is the bicycle you ride down there.

I've seen the spot as well and liked it. Despite some minor issues (no helmet, etc.), it's still great to see cycling/cyclists portrayed in a positive light in the media...

In San Diego County, the literature for every new housing tract depicts adults and/or kids on bicycles.

His seat's waaaay too low, he's riding in traffic without a helmet, you can tell the actor's never been on a bike in his life.

But if you don't ride, it's a good ad. And life is better out this way, so the moral of the story's pretty much spot on.
