Denver B-cycle Finishes Successful First Season with 102,000+ B-cycle Rides
While Bike Sharing is failing in Melbourne, it certainly is picking up in North America.
I'm not personally happy with B-Cycle closing for winter (I went downtown yesterday with my B-Card in hopes of checking one out, then was reminded when all the bikes were gone), it certainly has been a success so far.
From https://denver.bcycle.com/tabid/99/itemid/63/news.aspx
It opened on Earth Day (4/22) and closed on 12/6. With those numbers, that's over 450 rides per day since Earth day and over 910 miles per day and roughly 2 miles per ride. Perfect for those quick trips to the store.
I'd call that excellent news for the first season.
Here's me hoping they don't close it for winter next season.

Cycle Year Round
They could improve useage at least 10 fold with better or more of bike station locations.

I don't get the whole bike sharing thing. Why can't people ride their own bikes? Personally, I'm very picky about the bike I ride.

I use it now as I often take a bus downtown and don't bring my bike with me. They're convenient to get from the bus station to they local brewpub. Also, no worry about locking. Parking spots are easy to find.
I'm sure for some, the $65 annual membership is more affordable than a decent bike and the maintenance for one.

or
Try taking transit which only gets you a 1 mile from your destination.
or
Try finding a really hot lady/guy who wants to go one a bike ride, but they left their bike at home (maybe in another city).
Or
Try finding someone who hasn't ridden a bike in a long time and wants too try it out.
