Best helmet?

Seems all the helmets on the market are designed for either roadies or mountain biking, but what's the best helmet for the unique requirements of riding on the sidewalk? preferably with enough clearance around the ears to allow easy use of cellphone and headphones (I hate earbuds). Thanks.
