Wrong in ANY language.

Driver needs the city to go "Netherlands" on him.

(for those unclear on that reference, see the thread "When Cyclists Matter" here in A & S.)

Does "JA Motorista" mean what it seems to mean in Portuguese?

I'm hugely relieved that no-one was killed. Here is another view of the incident, the charge starts at about 55 seconds.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XL3g4vPK30
Have they caught the driver? I hope he gets charged with attempted murder, thats what it was.

I have my problems with CM rides, the only one I've ever witnessed made me think of a bunch of soccer hooligans swaggering down the street. ( You CM may vary ) But there's no excuse for this, don't care how pissed off they made you.

I use to ride CM. I don't anymore b/c it just annoys the crap out of drivers which leads to confrontations and stuff like this. I'm not supporting the driver because he was clearly at fault here, but CM seems to do more harm than good. I don't see why they can't just ride two profile at a time. That'll still get the word out about cycling but not piss drivers off AND be street legal too.

But if there is a bunch of CM cyclists, that would end up being a pretty long line of passing CM cyclist for the sake of impatience.

I hate to say it... but it was only a matter of time. There have been other similar issues with CM... in different towns, where drivers forced their way through...

Bicycles and human bodies do not make an effective barrier to cars. It was only a matter of time.

Is it also only a matter of time until the cyclists arm themselves and fight back? Just what we need, both *********s and cyclists using Second Amendment "solutions".

Not yet. They found his car and a lawyer representing him says he will turn himself in on Monday. Based on reports from witnesses, it seems more than likely he will be charged with attempted murder.

Wow! One article calling it an accident. The driver claiming self defense. A few video's showing him accelerating through the crowd.

I wonder what his defense is going to be. "My client didn't see the riders." "As you can see in the video none of the cyclist had reflective clothing or a blinking red light." Oh, that's not going to work then how bout "My client was in fear of his life, one of the cyclist said boo." Still nothing, then lets try...oh geez, I guess theirs no excuse.

Attacking a Critical Mass ride? The driver must have been a Cycling Advocate (TM).

Possibly you do not know Brazil.

CBT - Brazilian Traffic Code - says the biggest vehicle to protect pedestrians, cars and bicycles.
The CBT does not require cyclists to wear helmets, body or reflective lights.
CBT committed to have bell, reflective mirror and pedal.

-------------------------------
In Brazil who has money is not punished.
It can kill, steal, run down ... can do everything, all you need is money
because the driver will pay a good lawyer and judges ...

Detail, the driver has several passages in the police,
illegal possession of weapons, crimes ...

The driver will not have his license withdrawn, will not receive a fine
and not be arrested ... will be free. unpunished.

When you come riding in Brazil, stay tuned.
Trucks and Buses push cyclists off the road.
Highways no shoulder. Nobody respects signaling.
There is no security. No structures for tourism.
Riding on the coast is simply asking to be mugged.

Strengths of the bike trip to Brazil:
Low Cost
Joy and reception of the poor
Linda Flora and Fauna

Only this ...

I would like to write that Brazil is wonderful ... but
it is actually quite dangerous to ride in Brazil.
