Not my video , but I thought it was interesting to show the
interactions on a NYC intersection. And even though this was
filmed on one spot, this is an accurate representation of how
things are in NYC; at least in Manhattan

wow, a city that has a lot of bicycle traffic and limited plans to accomodate them. yep, traffic jamming is the response of bi cyclists in a bicyclist unfriendly urban environment.

it looks like many road users want an advantage over traffic flow.

a maxim of bicycle traffic is that when a city adds quality bicycle facilities it will see reductions in wrong way, red light running and sidewalk cycling coupled to an increase in cyclist safety.

there's very little red light running on green waved streets in copenhagen.

I think it is interesting that it was mentioned that car culture has only ruled since the 1950s... just think about that for a moment.

That is scary, but what is even more scary is the way that so many people (even cyclists) are reluctant to either give up their car, or to do things to improve safety on the roads for all road users.

Is it really such an inconvenience to ask people leave early enough so that when they have an appointment somewhere that they have enough time to get there if they should encounter some sort of problem on the road?

While a cool piece of video, why does anyone find this surprising? It's a major city with significant vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Try making a right turn off of 5th Avenue. The steady stream of pedestrians would only allow one car to turn every light cycle if cars did not slip through the openings. Someone might say that a right turn arrow would be useful where pedestrians don't get a walk signal. When does anyone in NYC pay attention to whether they have a walk signal or not? Break in traffic, go for it. This is survival behavior in a densely populated city. Those of you who have been to India will know what truly aggressive driving looks like.

Importantly, note that much of the truly aggressive/illegal behaviors in that clip were committed by bicyclists. Running lights, cycling the wrong way, weaving in and out of pedestrians, etc. It's wholly dysfunctional and not the result of any particular group. The only realistic scenario is to eliminate private vehicles from the streets between 6am and 7pm in central Manhattan . . . or charge a high enough toll that it thins the herd.
