This just shows there are a lot of good motorist

http://www.local6.com/news/3936055/detail.html

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Outraged motorists in Kissimmee chased down a driver who police say hit a bicyclist and kept going.

Police arrested 18-year-old Leonor Paulino Friday after drivers gave chase and boxed her in after 69-year-old Errol V- Welsh was struck by a car while he was crossing a Kissimmee street.

Welsh was hurled into the windshield and slid off, suffering minor injuries. Witnesses say the car that hit him sped away.

Two other drivers chased the car, which eventually got stuck behind traffic.

Witnesses say the woman's mother was in the passenger seat and that Paulino was hysterical.

Paulino was charged with leaving the scene of a vehicle accident with injuries. She was also cited her for failing to exhibit a drivers license upon demand.

She was booked into Osceola County Jail. Welsh was treated for his injuries at Florida Hospital Kissimmee.

This is definitely grounds for a lifetime ban on driving for said individual.

Should be attempted manslaughter since he fled the scene (or the legal equal to that). Hopefully, he'll face a felony charge or two and serve several years in the pen. Wishful thinking though.........

I ride all winter in Vermont and upstate NY. At least once a month a driver will stop and offer me a ride on cold days. Also, at 4 way stop signs, I get waved through nearly every day. The great majority of auto drivers are, of course, decent good people.

Thanks for the post.

Well she was booked into jail at least. Doesn't say how long she stayed there. Maybe she'll get more then a slap on the wrist. Probably not.

The vast majority of motorist are good, it's the few idiots that make the news and start forum threads.

On a typical 20 mile ride, I probably encounter between 300 and 1000 cars. Over 2 years I have had to stop short once when a vehicle started to pull out making a right turn on red. The driver, a teenager, stopped, rolled down the window and apologized profusely.

As in most walks (rides) of life, there are those who make mistakes or behave erratically. When I encounter one, hopefully I will not suffer. Hopefully also, I will not conclude that drivers in general are worthy of some obscene epithet I see so often used in threads in this forum. Hopefully, I will reflect on the thousands and thousands of safe encounters I have had with vehicles.

If, God forbid, I should ever be involved in an accident with a bicycle, either as a driver or a rider, I hope I am not at fault. I also pray that the error results in no sufering on either side. Being both a defensive driver and rider I pray I'm able to avoid a colision. Should one occur however, I hope I am either able to forgive or be forgiven.

Should ever I be the victim of an intentional criminal act, I pray I survive to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. Even then though, I hope I am able to focus my ire on the perpetrator and not generalize to all drivers or riders.

Hey maybe she'll become a member of bikeforums! Without a car, she'll say that she was suddenly struck with an idea of how she should get around, from now on.

your assuming first she has a licence and second that it would stop her. there are a hell of a lot of people driving without insurance and without a licence.

Nice story. Wonder if that qualifies as citizen's arrest territory....

True, but there are plenty who are insured and licensed who don't know/obey traffic regulations or other laws, for that matter.
