Hit by cab today. [graphic]

So I'm out on a shortie, 22 miles out and back. I'm in the right hand lane at 12:45pm front and rear blinkies, yellow belt around my backpack, helmet (thank god), gloves and eye protection. My goal is to make this run in under an hour so I'm pushing it, on highway 3, Tongducheon, ggyongi-do South Korea. I have the right hand sholder, and a green light ahead so I take the lane, go into the drops and barrel in. A cab decides to run a red light and just barely clips my back tire. All he did was take the tire off the rim and pop the tube... but it pulled me off center enough that I went A-hole over elbows and did the best I could to pull into a roll. 7 stitches later and a concussion... some road rash... and a smile... My day sucked. The helmet took the brunt of it, but there was a very pointed puncture mark in the helmet where had I not been wearing it, it would have split my wig.

Worst part is... he didn't even stop... And now I need a new helmet. Oh, and I just lost my school slot at work. I'm in the military.

on edit: warning, graphic pics

Ouch !!! Your road-rash / puncture-wound looks worse then mine did I got a month ago. My assailant didn’t stop either but at least it sounds like yours was an honest accidental collision. Mine was a deliberate attack where the guy crossed over two lanes to get at me and smash me off the road.

Mine is about healed all up now, no puncture like yours but took about 70% of me skin off a couple good patches on me leg and arm that were bigger areas then yours looks to be.

Good luck on healing up and getting back on the road dude. And keep the wound cleaned and dressed with a permeable gauze type bandage. Also if you keep it semi-damp with triple antibiotic cream, aloe-vera gel, emu oil, etc and don’t let it completely crust up and totally scab over it won’t hurt/itch near as bad. Aloe-vera gel (at least 95% purity) is very cooling and soothing and helps with the pain and itching without having to take pain killers and emu oil will help prevent/reduce how visible the scar will be when it finally heals up. A beer or two before bed also helps as a sleep aid when the itching is really bad.

Heal well, and soon.

hope things heal up. Sorry I broke the links to the pictures of your injuries, a little too graphic.

Hope your wounds heals quickly. One time I received similiar injuries when I hit a patch of sand and gravel while pedaling downhill, getting some major road rash on my arms and legs when I hit the pavement. If I was ever hit by a car, I would probably be so greatly traumatized by the experience that I would have to go through therapy to get over it.

Ooh, seeing things like that makes me feel a bit lightheaded. Glad I'm already sitting down. Thank goodness that wasn't your head. Ouch.

not to make a social comment but it speaks to the political climate regarding US soldiers in korea. I'm not entirely sure it wasn't intentional, and while surrounded by koreans... I was being stepped over and ignored... pointedly. The only person who offered to say anything was a retired US soldier. He held my bike while I puked on the side of the road... I hate concussions, but sadly am used to them. I haven't hit double digits yet though thank god.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. Woke up this morning unable to bend my knee properly, I'm guessing the tendons are a little battered and bruised. I just hope this doesnt affect my career. If I can heal and recover then I should be back on the firing line soon enough.

If any of you have such proclivities, send a prayer of thanks and healing up for me.
