Gov. Snyder leads bike ride during the Michigan Republican Conference

https://www.lmb.org/index.php/Blog/go...l-fitness.html

As reported in the Detroit News, about 100 people joined Governor Rick Snyder this past Saturday on an eight-mile bicycle ride and walk around Mackinac Island during the Michigan Republican Conference. The ride was part of the Governor's new healthy Michigan initiative encouraging "Michiganders to be healthy, productive individuals, living in communities that support health and wellness..."

What if he succeeds? What will we do with all those healthy mid-westerners when they retire? It's already too crowded in places with good weather.

Interesting that he chose Mackinac Island as the place to do this... I believe it is a car free area.

There are several such island communities in the US: https://news.yahoo.com/blogs/wanderlu...205722680.html

Now if the governor was really supportive of cycling, and wanted to show his constituents alternatives to using a car, he would have done this bike ride in Detroit.

Mackinac Island is actually one of the few "urban trails" that I will go out of my way to ride. Beautiful views and no cars. Not challenging by any means, but relaxing as hell.

Yes, a beautiful ride but don,t let the "car free" fool you. I chuckled when the ticket lady at the ferry mention "the safest place to ride" when she saw our bikes (8.00$ upcharge btw just to roll it on the boat). I would rather put up with traffice than dodge multitudes of children being children on bikes, cluless parents, and mounds of slippery horse poop. In 2 laps around the perimiter this past busy summer my wife and I both had numerous near misses. Think super MUP on steroids.
