Please wear a lid!
Please please wear your helmet, even for that tiny trip round to the shop.
My cousin decided it was too hot to cycle home and didn't wear his. He was hit from behind by a car blinded by the low sun. He's now just come round from a week and a half coma, only able to blink his eyes and raise his hand.
It looks likely that his best prognosis is that he'll have a 5% recovery, need 24/7 care for the rest of his life, he's only 36.
Please don't leave it behind?
Matt

The surgeons who carried out the work to release pressure on his brain said it could have made the difference between being aware of the rest life or not.
Just so scary.

This is why I run a super-bright taillight on the road. I'd rather it not matter whether I'm wearing a helmet or not.

I'm not sure about stateside, but the traffic is incredibly here in th UK, even rural. It's crazy on the roads.
Being a police trained motorcyclist I would always insist on helmet wearing as I'm so acutely aware of all the hazards around.

Speaking of the UK, it seems so dangerous to ride your bike on the road. Certainly feels dangerous. Not sure if it's the narrower roads or the drivers..
I endeavour to wear a helmet everytime I ride. Feel sorta naked without it.

It really is busy on the roads, and the mind set of a lot of drivers is highly dubious! Combined with it being technically illegal to use the pavement makes for a nervous time.

Please see 'The helmet thread'. Helmet-related discussions tend to get out of hand very quickly, so they're kept in reasonable order by having only one active thread on the subject. I'd also suggest researching the actual capabilities of typical bike helmets before barking instructions at us all to wear one.

Sorry, I firstly didn't know that helmet related stuff was confined to a thread. No problem on that at all.. But I had no idea that it would be such an emotive subject in the first place.
Please close this thread. We have enough angst in the world already! I'm quite shocked that anyone would actually get aggressive about something so innocuous. In the UK it's part of our highway code to wear one.
