VIRGINIA BEACH

A 49-year-old man who scattered thumbtacks on Pungo roads that left dozens of bicyclists with flat tires was convicted of 25 counts of misdemeanor destruction of property, according to online General District Court records.

An additional 18 misdemeanor destruction charges against Warren Dean Davis Jr. were withdrawn, the records show.

Davis was sentenced to 16 days in jail, to be served on weekends beginning in January, said his attorney, Gregory Turpin. Davis also must complete 80 hours of community service, enroll in an anger management program and pay restitution to each of the 43 victims in the case.

During the weekends of June 4 and June 11, bicyclists got flat tires or crashed when they rode over the tacks strewn on roads where large groups of cyclists travel, police said at the time.

Turpin said his client was frustrated by the bicycles at the time of the incidents, but that Davis "immediately realized what he had done was inappropriate and foolish. He was embarrassed by the whole situation and wanted to try to make it right."

Not enough time IMO.

I lol'd this line:

Turpin said his client was frustrated by the bicycles at the time of the incidents, but that Davis "immediately realized what he had done was inappropriate and foolish. He was embarrassed by the whole situation and wanted to try to make it right."
Uh huh, yet, somehow didn't seem to remove ANY of the tacks he'd tossed on the roads, or apologized to ANY riders he might've hurt. I just cant laugh hard enough, that an actually attorney said something like this w/a straight face. What a couple of POS

The judge should teach him empathy. He should have been sentenced to a year of car-free living without kevlar-belted tires.

Dang! A conviction ... with time in jail.

I didn't think that happened anymore.

Let's hear it for the judge and jury in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Ride Pungo!

I'm interested to know how they caught this guy. Did he brag to someone? Or was he tracked through his purchase of the tacks, etc?

You don't find the best actors in Hollywood, but in a court room.
