$20 aero-roadie helmet shipped??!! (ebay knockoff, but still... word?)

Here's a supercheap knockoff helmet that has something very rare that I like in a lid: a bright color at the back.

Nearly all other helmets, when viewed from the rear with the rider riding, display a flat-black or flat-gray surface to approaching car drivers (the group I'm most concerned about).

Anyway, here's a $20 SHIPPED -- FREE SHIPPING! -- eBay helmet. That's only $10 for the helmet itself!

I note that it has the usual lame knockoff non-name. Its title says "31 holes" some places, "21 holes" other places. It weighs 335 grams.

The flamey BMX styling isn't my cuppa but, whatever, no one before or since Limar (of ten years ago) has bothered to make a nice, moderate yet still noticeable *orange* helmet.

So, any buzz about these cheapies?

(ITTET, beggars sometimes aren't the best choosers -- but the "value" in fluffy styro "best quality" headgear seems largely marketing-based anyway, courtesy of one mega corporation or another.)

Finally, the link:

I wouldn't trust it. Just get a blinkie that you can attach to your helmet.

It doesn't mention the helmet meeting any kind of safety specification (like CE EN178 etc..). Hmm isn't that a bad thing?

I don't see any safety certification. If saving $10 or so is worth your skull, just duct tape a styrofoam cooler to your head.

To qualify as a "knockoff" it'd have to be a copy of a branded design. What is it a copy of?

Pointy helmets are stupid, and the "aero" design serves no purpose unless you're a racer trying to shave a second off you're time.
However, lots of ventilation and bright colors are good. My 2 helmets are white and yellow, and are a generally roundish shape.

knockoff helmets off ebay are best avoided.

splurge on your safety equipment, get a Bell SOLAR helmet, 40 bucks full price, likely able to find last years discounted somewhere.

Bell SOLAR helmet

I ride a lot and replace helmets regularly, the Bell Solar is my cheap helmet of choice. 23 vents!

5. Vents is to improve the helmet inside air flow, take part of heat.
Many third graders write better than this. Do you really want to buy a helmet from someone that is not even as smart as a third grader?

I am loath to defend them, but they're probably not native English speakers. That said, if you're selling a product to Americans, they should hire a proofreader!

I got one ride out of my Bell helmet (my first ever), paid full price and glad I got a brand name. Nothing left but bits of plastic and styrofoam, but I was still functional (after a little rehab and a new bike).

or ANSI or SNELL. Bottom line, if you think your head is only worth 20 dollars, then by all means, this is your helmet.

The poor grammar patterns in the ad are similar to common mistakes I see regularly from Chinese speakers.

Maybe so, but many e-mails come out of Nigeria with great offers worded similar to the ad. At any rate, it seems you missed the implication of my post.
