You and the DA keeps talking about the previous 3 lights as hard evidence but he has not put forward any hard evidence that the cyclist ran a red at the intersection of the collision.
With all the tough talk by the DA that he was going to hammer the cyclist, community service and the CA version of a deferred sentence is hardly a hammer.

1. The cyclist struck and killed a pedestrian.
2. The cyclist admitted doing so.
3. The family is without a loved one.
4. The cyclist gets off almost scott-free.
The punishment is wrong on so many levels - drop all the other crap about motorists and and equal punishment and all that, and look at THIS case. The guy on the bike was ripping down the road, being stupid, killed someone - his irresponsibility got someone killed. And gets probation and community service.
Shoot, here in Oregon, you get danged near that punishment if you make your dog sleep outside on a cold night without the legally-prescribed dog house......

The fact there was a collision doesn't automatically mean guilt on the part of the cyclist. Two weeks ago a pedestrian here was hit by a car and charged with "stepping into traffic when it wasn’t reasonable for the vehicle to stop in time to avoid the collision". The relative lightness of the sentence is sure to anger many of the people who took to blogs after the accident. That the prosecutor was willing to agree and face criticism for it speaks to the lack of strength of the case.

Well said David.
There has to be a level of accountability especially when someone is killed. Cyclist or not.
We all demand justice when another cyclist gets killed, but IMHO, we should be careful not to rally around some careless idiot who makes us all look bad. (I can just imagine the press on this...)
Now I'm usually in the side of the cyclist, but it sounds like to me this person made some pretty seriously flawed judgement calls... and that resulted in the death of a pedestrian...in a crosswalk.
It's a shame.
That's not the end of it though...the civil courts are going to take him for anything he's worth...if anything.

Putting blinders on, does not help you see the big picture. Careful reading of post 241 and 242 may be helpful to you.

I guess there *may* be a few things wrong here. The main problem being that in this particular case, the cyclist was absolutely in the wrong, his own technology proved it, but a good lawyer was able to find some ambiguous angle and the guy walks.
The way cyclists are disliked in the state of Georgia, I bet they would have thrown away the key in an incident like this...
