Judging by how much of the car was wedged under the bus, I'm guessing he was flying and never hit the brakes. Probably not a stretch to think he was texting and never looked up to see the bus. Wow!

Well I don't applaud the death of any driver...

One has to admit that if a motorist can't see a stopped school bus right in front of them, then perhaps they have some serious issues as a driver.

Many years ago I was riding to school in a school bus, the bus driver stopped at a stop sign and then proceeded turning left on the the major cross road hitting a passing VW bug and crushing it against a retaining wall on the far side of the road. The VW had the right of way as it was on the major road and didn't have a stop sign. The bus driver just didn't see it even though the intersection high very good sight lines with no obstructions. The VW was only 2' wide crushed against the wall but fortunately its driver was ambulatory and relatively unhurt.

Such a waste. We had a garbage truck nearly take out stopped school bus this past spring. After he realised that he was going to slam into the bus, the truck driver attempted to do what he could to minimise injuries by steering onto the shoulder. Unfortunately, a student was exiting the bus as he drove past on the right. While she survived she suffered permanent injuries.

Think about the innocent people this guy would have eventually harmed or killed had his distracted driving continued.

Drivers today know the harm DUI and distracted driving can cause. Thus, I find it hard to feel for these guys when they kill themselves. When it happens like this, I am thankful they did not harm anyone else.

The reason bus bumpers are high is federal regulation - the concept for the bus to be high is so what happened is what will happen - cars will go under the bus and therefore not hit the kids.

Yeah, maybe the bus backed up really fast and hit the car. Or maybe the guys cruise control stuck and he decided it was better to plow into the back of the bus to stop rather than drive around the bus.

Reminds me of the time witnessed such a crash. I was passing a public bus while riding in the bike lane (at the time that was the sidewalk (with nice wide grassy median between the road and the sidewalk), on one side of the road only. Ashland, Oregon, circa 1986). I was young, oncoming, and fast (nice tailwind, downhill leg), when I see the bus stop to pick up/drop off some passengers at SOSC's (now SOU's) Student Union, and suddenly hear the familiar sound of screeching tires and rending metal.

Turns out that the driver of the VW Bug was following a little too close, and didn't see the bus stop because of the glare of the rising sun on wet pavement directly ahead of him. Fortunately, for me, a cop was behind them and he witnessed the crash too, so I didn't need to leave any details. No serious injuries.

I'm actually surprised that it doesn't happen more often, as Siskiyou Blvd. runs directly East/West. and Ashland is known for getting nice patches of black ice in the winter.

The mentality of the posters in this sub forum amaze me. You are just as bad as the drivers that make jokes about hitting cyclists. A real heartless sociopath.

Who joked about hitting or killing this motorist, no one. He killed himself with his poor driving. It was fortunate that he killed only himself and not the kids waiting for the bus, or some cyclist or other motorist.

Noting the fact that each time a DUI or distracted motorist kills only themselves and makes the roads safer by their absence, is neither heartless or sociopath.

What is heartless and sociopath are drivers who continue to DUI or distracted drive, knowing the likely outcome that someday they will kill or seriously injure an innocent.

Do you also believe we are wrong for being thankful that the OR mall gunman shot himself before killing more than two people and injuring more children?

I agree with your point; your choice of title for the post is distracting from the subject, as well as disrespectful. Not necessarily the product of a sociopath but thoughtless. I suggest renaming the thread.
