I believe this is the first time that I have agreed with one of your posts in this section of the forum.

I'm really, really, really, really, really, sick and tired almost to the point of puking about claims that people driving too slowly cause "accidents" .
Well more accurately the bucket truly is driving in an unpredictable manner. Doing the speed limit is not too slow but 10 or 15 under in a 40, or the same below pace of freeway traffic is more the hazard I mean. The operator becomes a rolling obstruction that causes evasive maneuvers...that many people can't do well...thus accidents.

The latest local fad is to stop dead in the middle of a two way street and wave on an oncoming car stopped with its blinker on turning across the lane...it's purely insane.

Most of I-5 in Northern CA has a 70 mph speed limit for 4-wheels and a 55 mph limit for trucks. The road is mostly two lanes each way (divided). Many trucks are governed below 60 mph, like UPS trucks. The flow of 4-wheels is around 75 mph. Somehow, those thousands of trucks and hundreds of thousands of cars manage to roll up and down that highway without any appreciably different rate of carnage than other roads. Perhaps there is less to having slower moving vehicles, from a safety standpoint, than you think.

Just how hard is it for people to not run into stuff that's right in front of them? Wait, nevermind. Don't answer that.

Sounds like Kingsqueek believe he has a right to be able to drive the speed limit without obstruction. I disagree strongly. There is no right to unobstructed driving,

Employ a dash camera at the worst examples and show it to the police. At least call them and tell them. They get grants for specialized enforcement now and then and that sounds like what the money's for.

I am updating this thread from an incident nearly a year ago.

Here is another thread that is a continuation of behavior from the same driver.

https://www.bikeforums.net/advocacy-s...p-driving.html

Today was the sentencing of this driver. The rider's family and friends came to town to attend the sentencing. My bf has been in contact with the rider's mother. He also made another ghost bike as the first one was removed from the crash site last winter (probably by CDOT). The ghost bike was placed outside of the Justice Center and the family and friends were very touched by this. Several of us local bicyclists also attended the hearing. This was important to us. We wanted to show the family and friends that we cared even though we never met the cyclist. We also wanted to emphasize that we ride here and are concerned about the whether this person is driving around in our community. It was a 3 hour hearing at the sentencing and it was very emotional so I will try to write more later when I get my head back together.

Anyways, the driver was sentenced to 10 years.
