How about the two survivors, any update? So much focus on the asshat driver, let's not forget the other riders who are currently suffering physical pain. I hate how the media just says "non life-threatening injuries", these other folks may now be sentenced to a much different life of constant pain and/or a disability.

I came upon the scene about 2-3 minutes after it happened. Very sad. It was in the back of your mind during the ride (just trying to make it on my first century) When I got home, and even now I can't stop thinking about it. I was interviewed here:

They should close the bridge on one lane to bikes next year.
That girl should be in jail NOW

The driver of the car has been charged with two counts of negligent homicide and two counts of felony assault. She should now be in custody and will be arraigned tomorrow. This is likely to cost her several years of her life. And it should.

Arrested.
Each charge carries a penalty of three-and-a-half to seven years in prison and a fine of $4,000.
That's it??

Looks like this is updated. Each of the four charges carries a 3.5 to 7.5 year penalty. The negligent homicide charges could be upgraded to vehicular manslaughter, for which the penalty is undoubtedly more severe.

I wonder what lame excuses will be used to defend this woman... Especially with her short record.

Pretty young women tend to get off easy - my guess is she does little to no time.
We had a guy here run down a line of LBS riders from behind in daylight on a flat, straight road, struck several, killed one, several of the bicyclists/witnesses insisted it was not accidental. He took a plea bargain and served only 3 months, on weekends!

Driving while texting should carry the same penalties as DUI.

I feel for the fact that her mom died suddenly when she was young. I don't know the circumstances of her dads incarceration, but obviously also a sad story for her. That still offers no justification for getting behind the wheel a mere HOURS after getting a warning not to do so. So now two other kids don't have a mom DIRECTLY because of her actions. She better do serious real jail time, please make an example of her so others think twice before doing something illegal.

At the end of the day it's the fact of the case that count. And I do hope she serves the appropriate time for killing two women. Women who had a great life ahead of them with their families.
That said - justice is often funny.

Tried, Convicted, sentenced, paroled, and complained about the sentence. All before the actual arraignment. Good God, what a fine example of waiting for the facts, and American justice. This is one of the most pathetic lynch mobs I have ever seen or heard of.

Personally, I hope they convict her of all four charges and that whoever sentences her takes into account the fact that she was stopped for major speeding and driving without a license less than 12 hours before.

Woman in FL got 20 years for killing a cyclist and leaving the scene. This woman should get 40, minimum.

she didn't leave the scene. The problem for her is the earlier ticket and no license. Under normal circumstances, given no dui, there is some pretty good likelihood that they couldn't figure out how to convict her of anything. The fact that she has been charged with some pretty serious charges is a break from the norm of, "no drugs, no foul"
