Beware of drivers with “affluenza”
No, this is not strictly about cycling... but it is about drivers that kill vulnerable road users and get away with it due to their family wealth and influence.

No doubt this same "affliction" has prevented the prosecution of some cyclist killing motorists too.

A defense psychologist called it “affluenza,” a syndrome that keeps someone from a wealthy background from learning that bad behavior has consequences. That explanation helped a North Texas teenager get a sentence of probation after he drove while drunk and killed four pedestrians.
A psychologist testified for the defense that the teen is a product of something he called “affluenza” and doesn't link bad behavior with consequences because his parents taught him that wealth buys privilege, the psychologist said in court, according to media reports.
That psychologist cited one instance when the boy, then 15, was caught in a parked pickup with a naked 14-year-old girl who was passed out. He was never punished, the psychologist said, noting to the court that the teenager was allowed to drink at a very young age, and even began driving at 13.

Oh I think it is right up there with this thread... and the situation of that driver too.

No, that thread is just an example of the problem cited in this thread. This is the first time I have heard of "affluenza" and by merging it, this word will become lost to those that don't care to venture into that thread again.

On my way out to the main road from our subdivision i was passed within 100 feet of the intersection . . the vehicles turning left, off of the main road, have a very short line of sight. There turn is about 120 degrees. this time there was no one turning

Just learned about this sentencing just yesterday, somehow I question the judge's reasoning that this teen will be a much better driver by spending 10 years time in a sugar coated wonderland as a deterrence, versus being locked up for a minimum of 2 years with the big boys.

Where is all the psychopathic bloodletting coming from anyway? I haven't heard of so much carnage since the last issue of Our Army At War I purchased.
Thread after thread until it sounds like trolling, real or not.

It IS trolling, using the specter of crazed, distracted and/or homicidal motorists and/or Gestapo-like LEO organizations as the bait for claptrap loaded, non-bicycling advocacy/safety related threads, that really belong in P&R, Foo or Trollheim.
