Pensyltucky is pretty much what you think it is.

IMO, this doesn't quality as a bicycle issue. It seems to be a straightforward case of assault, and the bicycle is incidental to the problem.

Likewise this story, which as initially reported sounded like it might be a hit and run.

Maybe the existence of the bike was incidental, but I think it was more than assault. The driver knew he was dragging the bike. So, He should have been charged with attempted murder.

Unless you believe the attacker would do the same action if the victim were driving a monster truck, then the bicycle and associated vulnerability were germain.

Carlisle is Pensultucky? It's not even in Perry County.

Looking at PA's assault laws, simple assault is the correct charge. Can be up to two years in prison.

How does dragging a bike without the rider qualify this as attempted murder? Was he trying to kill the bike?

There's no denying that this was an assault by car, maybe even an attempted murder by car, but the bike was incidental to the issue, and so the case isn't fodder for this forum.

No. 1. That's what I thought when I read the report. This is not your plain vanilla assault.

So, judging from the context, the OP and some later posters consider certain areas of Pennsylvania to be ignorant and backwards, a trait they consider to be typical of people from Kentucky, hence the epithet Pennsyltucky?

As a native of Kentucky, perhaps I should feel a little bit insulted by that, but I'm just going to chalk it up to the OP trying to be cute, but failing miserably, as I know from extensive experience that every state has its share of idiots....

Maybe you should get your friends to start calling "backward" rural parts of eastern Kentucky "Kensylvania.

Nah, no need to lower myself to that level or coerce my friends to lower themselves, either

That DEFINITELY should've been attempted murder. AND...consider the fact that the guys involved are both 18yrs old and under........ Teenagers. It's rooted in immaturity but, the driver is old enough to know that he was ridiculously in the wrong. Based on the article, If he would've struck the cyclist, there's a possibility that he could've killed him. Do the crime, do the time. He got off like a fat rat in a cheese factory.

Anyone know what the argument was about?

If it was a "bikes aren't allowed on the road, your not a car, get off the road !!!" argument that proceeded this act of ADWv then it is certainly a proper matter of discussion for this forum.

On the other hand if the argument was over a girl or something like that then its just a case of ADWv and could have just as easily happened to a ped. or even someone in a car (people have been known to deliberately ram other peoples cars especially when the other person has a much smaller and less sturdy car).

The prudent cyclist learns from experience that the mean urban streets are full of motorists who are dangerous thugs behind their 3,000 pound rolling couch. Cameras, one mounted on the helmet and another mounted under the seat facing rearward, are tools to hold these motorists accountable.

The prudent cyclists who does not post FUD on the internet learns that poorly designed urban streets are full of motorists who treat cyclists with respect. Cameras, one mounted on the helmet and another mounted under the seat facing rearward, are often tools for anecdotally exaggerating the risks of cycling and demonizing our neighbors.

PS: i am a speed-racing, lane-splitting, bike lane-avoiding, light-running cyclists who wears black and 99% of motorists treat me with courtesy and respect.

Understood, but I like 99% of motorists to be able to see me in the dark and predict my movements. There will always be the 1% who just don't care. They're rude to other motorists as well. A hi-viz vest and predictable riding go a long way.

If he moves out of Pennsyltucky to San Francisco he might get different treatment: https://www.sfexaminer.com/sanfrancis...nt?oid=2634966

The driver of the Prius then sped around the bicyclist and stopped short in front of him causing the victim to swerve away from the vehicle and crash into the curb... The Prius then fled the scene...

...The suspect was identified by police as 50-year-old San Francisco resident Boris Volpe. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon
That's the proper charge when using a motor vehicle as a weapon.

I've driven through these areas. Really, there isn't much difference to the naked eye. Poverty, extreme close-minded-ness, Confederate flags on half the trucks and high levels of cousin banging. It's very pretty out there. But, my gay brother won't stop for gas unless he's on E.

In Pennsylvania, while the definition of hit-n-run says this:https://www.deadlyroads.com/laws/penn...run-laws.shtml;

The state's definition of murder says this:https://www.lakelandlegal.com/homicide

Because, If the motorist had hit another motorist, this wouldn't be pleaded down. The teen didn't jump off his bike for kicks. He did it to avoid being hit, despite his bike.
