Saturday Hit and Run in DC area

Hit and run on Feb 22nd.

Info from Police flyer: Case #: 2014-706910

On February 22, 2014 at 1709 hours an SUV traveling west bound on Central Avenue, Davidsonville, near the Patuxent River Bridge struck two bicyclists that were also traveling west bound on Central Avenue. The SUV failed to stop and continued west on Central Avenue into Prince Georges County. The vehicle was operated by a white male, 50 to 60 years of age, with a grey mustache, and wearing sun glasses. Police have identified the possible suspect vehicle to be a light colored 1995 to 2001 Honda CR-V similar to the one pictured above. The vehicle should have right side damage, and is missing the right side mirror.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Anne Arundel County Police Traffic Safety Section at (410) 222-8573

Used to ride through there all the time (not commuting though) when I lived in Annapolis. Just before the bridge Pax River Rd is a nice scenic lightly traveled road. Central Ave is a commuting route. Hope they catch the SOB.

The hard thing is that there are very few crossings of the Patuxent River. Central Ave may be the saftest crossing. There is a plan for the Washington, Baltimore, & Annapolis Trail to bridge the river several miles upstream, but that has been blocked by the landowner on the east bank of where the old railroad right of way runs.

When I was there a mile or so south there is the abandoned Queen Ann bridge crossing, which was in disrepair but still usable at the time. You had to follow a dirt road to it on AA side, but it was in a park on PG side.

At that time Central was busy at rush hour, but not so bad otherwise, but the Davidsonville area was building up, and also further east around Mayo. AA County south of Annapolis was prety much open country and tobacco farms. Great riding. Not so much any more.
