Cyclist videos encounter and gets some news coverage

A cyclist/high lever racer filmed some of his encounter with a large truck in SoCal a few days back. The LA news provided some coverage of the incident:

OC Cyclist Records Pickup Truck Driver Trying To Run Him Off Road Ģ CBS Los Angeles

I was particularly bummed to read the general hate of cyclists in the comment section of the article.

What the News station did not show in their edit of the video was that the cyclist got a clear shot of the license plate (from Virginia)

Someone in SoCal correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't L.A. pass an anti-harassment ordinance for cyclists that allows for collection of something like $2000 plus actual damages for this sort of thing? Perhaps O.C. needs to play copy-cat and start a region-wide means of cracking down on barbarians by hitting them in the wallets.

The hate doesn't surprise me, around here it gets much worse when similar or worse interactions occur.

Common.

I hate motorists too and I especially hate myself when I succumb to driving a car. I can't generally even get off my street before hating everyone and everything. So I kinda get it.

There are angry mobs, and there are angry mobs. In this case I feel the mob that will get this guy will be wearing badges.

Not a very brilliant motorist, especially coming back for the 4th try. Motorists in my locale only make one quick move then are gone, where pulling out a cell phone to record the incident would be too late, and why I record my whole commute with two cameras, one front and rear.

This is an example of why I want to get a helmetcam.

I really hope the proliferation of easy video eventually becomes the undoing of many of these idiots.

I suggest the SVC-200. About $160 from Amazon. Used to be cheaper on eBay but apparently people found out it's good and now Amazon is about the cheapest place to find it in the US.

It's small and light and mounts up against a helmet pretty well. I actually have a mount for it that I designed and 3D printed myself, PM me if you want one.

It also takes standard Nokia batteries, I bought two spares AND an AC charger for $8. it's nice to just pop in a new battery every day or two, whatever your schedule is.

I've had about 6 cams now including a GoPro, and the SVC200 is the first one that didn't piss me off in some way.

The SVC-200 looks enticing. My problem is the mounts. I don't want to mount it on my helmet, or handlebars. Do they have anything similar to GoPro's 'Chest Mount Strap'?

I don't know, I've never looked for any such thing, I really don't like chest mount. On a road bike it would have to be on quite an angle, looking up my nose, to see ahead.
