Congratulated by officer(sort of)

I was out on an evening ride, on my way back from Bestbuy during PM-Rush. I had both my headlight n' taillight flashing. I made a right-turn, off a six-lane lane arterial and stopped. Because I had to do my lock again, for my bike bag. While I was dealing with my bike bag, I noticed flashing red n' blue lights on a sign near where I had stopped. I turned around to see, that a motorist had been pulled over for going through a red light. The officer was mentioning to the bad driver, that, my taillight was extremely bright, and that it couldn't be missed. I am guessing the driver was behind me, somewhere, after he blew through the red light. When the officer stopped him.

Good thing it wasn't the grammar police.

What taillight did you use?

I do kinda wonder how a driver apparently uses not being able to see a cyclist to come up with some excuse for running a red light.

Thanks. Wonder how it compares to the Serfas USB taillight, brightness and side visibility? Also what is the size (e.g. how much larger than Cygolite HotShot, or Radbot 1000)?

It is the same size as the taillight you linked. Also the same size as the Cygolite HotShot. The Radbot 1000 looks twice the size.

Thanks, that's good small size.

It has three steady settings. Each brighter than the one before it. It has one fast flash setting, and one slow flash setting. It is USB re-chargeable.

It's cheaper than the Serfas light, both claim 60 lumen...

It is much brighter than any other taillight I have used in the past. The officer saw me. So the driver wasn't paying attention.

Are you sure the officer wasn't referring to the red (traffic signal) light being very bright instead of your taillight? Maybe he just said the red light was very bright and you assumed it was your light he was referring to. But if not, congratz; I happen to be a big proponent of using bright taillights (Dinotte for me).

Its funny you mention this light since I have two bolted side by side on a makeshift bracket to get really bright. On Saturday when riding home I was stopped by the police and thinking I was doing something wrong he pulls up beside me and asks me where I got the light claiming he could see it more then two miles away in the pouring rain. I said on amazon and thanks since I was hoping the police would notice me on my commute for safety. He said he rides, have a good day and drove off.

Simply uncalled for.

Rollfast 06-24-14 01:39 AM

The point was that the driver ran a traffic control device and the equipment Chris516 used is irrelevant to that outcome.

Unless I missed something, you didn't answer the question, you just said you had them bolted side by side. How does this light compare with the Serfas Shield 60?

My bad I guess I wasn't clear. I have two surfas shield 60's side by side. How they compare to the performance light the first guy has I do not know. What I do know is I have yet to see a light as bright for the price.

The officer was pointing at me, as he was talking to the driver.

Rollfast 06-25-14 12:49 AM

That probably clinches that notion then.

How is that setup working? I started the thread and had mentioned this taillight: http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...-NCL-ANGLE.jpg

I think, considering, your setup, your taillights(in tandem) and the extra brightness of my taillight. Make it a comparative setup. Because your lights don't look like some cheap dumpy junk from what I looked at.

shoemakerpom 06-26-14 12:32 PM

Everywhere I go people tell me that this setup is the brightest they had ever seen. I was riding to work one Saturday in the winter and the fog was so thick you could see maybe 20 feet in front. I had this car pull up on the side while riding asking where I got them claiming they could see me about 3 miles away on the 5 mile straight I was on. The bad side was I was in a charity ride recently and forgot to turn them off and the guy behind me on the line was claiming they were blinding. The thing is I live in an area with little if no public transportation and lots of retired people so it can be hazardous out in the street. The downside to the setup is it only lasts about 1 1/2 hours on high and maybe 4-5 hours on blink mode.

the serfas lights use the same led as the cygolite hotshot which can be found for $25 on sale. and these tail lights are still quite dim compared to higher end lights (e.g. dinotte).
