Positive end to potentially bad assault

A happier ending to a bicyclist assault in Kentucky | PeopleForBikes

Happy to the positive outcome.

One person being shown the light can help others learn from this poor behavior.

Bloodworth accepted the apology on behalf of all of the cyclists. He pointed out every cyclist or jogger endures abuse on the side of the road.

Positive end..."as part of his court-ordered sentence, which also includes two days in jail." I don't see it.

A quick perusal of just the first page of this forum will show that the south doesn't have a monopoly on jerk drivers. But, given your location, I get that it's cool to stereotype us rednecks. Enjoy!

A positive end for me is suing that asshat for medical bills and pain and suffering. Sorry, a group ride ain't going to cut it.

It's this mentality that perpetuates the cycle. Hurt us, hurt them, hurt us, hurt them.

I'm sure the satisfaction would be immense, but currently there are a LOT more of them than us.

There's always the (tiny) hope that converting one might get him/her to convert others. Hurting him simply encourages his family and friends to become further entrenched in their bike-hating rhetoric and does little to help cycling in general.

Also, the positive vibe generated by this article is much better than "Cyclist sends cup-throwing 19-year-old to hospital"

That's what I was thinking. At first I thought it was spontaneous/voluntary, that the driver somehow came to a revelation. As soon as I read "their usual Monday night ride—as part of his court-ordered sentence", I became unimpressed.

Sure, there's asshats everywhere. However, the concentration of them and the levels to which they stoop and are tolerated does vary from place to place. Yes, I've lived in the South. It's not my type of place for a lot of reasons and the excessive bike-hate is but one of them. I suspect the bike-hate will subside over the next few decades, but I still won't be moving back down.

He could have probably swapped more jail time for the bike ride, if he had really wanted to.
